It's already depressing when you have to haul for less then it takes you to operate per mile.

SC Kansas. The grain companies are keeping their regulars busy. If you haven't ever hauled for them, would be in trouble. Some were only paying a 1.00 a mile which is pretty bad.

They sure won't stick together...used to a little on rates but then the new outfits came in. There were two or three of us locally that would hold out for better rates. New grain merchant and new outfits came, rates went down.
You might be smarter going dump...aren't the latinos in that. I think I remember you talking about that. -
Yeah, but not so much in the OTR stuff, they stay pretty much local and buy the biggest pieces of crap on the road. Their is one of those border jumpers down here that went out and bought a old Fruehauf end dump for $6500 and went to hauling but he is at the tire shop everyday. The outfit he hauls for loves him because he is cheap. It is hard for a guy to compete with a guy that runs $12,000 dollars worth of junk and lives in a house with five other family's and will haul for driving wages. It is going to get worse. I have heard of pulled fifth wheel pins, cut tires, fuel tanks drained and a few other things when rates get cut. I just don't have any respect for anyone that cuts the rates below what it cost to operate. What that don't understand they can haul for the same rate as everyone else if they keep their mouth shut and work together.

I don't think it has gotten quite that bad here....as far as cut tires etc. Then again I may not have heard about it.
When the few of us did decide not to haul for their rate, usually within a day they would call back and up the rate. They want to haul it all at a cheap rate rather than a portion of it at a much better rate. Hard to understand that way of thinking. -
Supposed to have been busy this week. Hauled wheat today then told don't come back until at least Friday. Working on the elevator, seems like it always something.
Guess have to try and find something else for next few days. Other grain companies have lower rates than I'm pulling for now.
