I just hope there's a wheat harvest so we have something to haul in summer and winter. Elevators around here are pretty empty.

I don't know about you but this has been the strangest winter and spring I've ever seen. 50's about all Jan and Feb. and March has been warm too. Very little snow but rain. Wheat is as tall as I've ever seen it this time of year. 83 out right now.

I'll be riding down Pennyrile later on tonight but I'm not gonna have enough time to stop, gotta go, gotta go. I made the mistake last night of running I-65 up to Chicago area. Wth is going on in Lousiville? They're tearing the center divider wall out and replacing it for a few miles before you cross into Indiana. I didn't realize divider walls could wear out
our tax dollars at work
Then I get to Indiana and the no fly zone has been extended out to about 25 miles from the line and a lot of that 45mph.. Always took pennyrile on the trips up here in the past, knew 65 was a mistake. I bet that southbound into Lousiville is a complete cluster in the afternoons.. Not gonna ride that way again....

It has been crazy, very mild winter. I get the feeling it's gonna be a hot dry summer but who knows..

I'd have to agree with you WH.it's been an odd winter. We had only a couple of good freezes for the ground and then way too much rain, probably be begging for it this summer too. Two of the bigger farmers i haul for in the fall have bottom ground that has been flooded at least 3 times so it's not gona be as productive as usual due to all the ''packing'',plus the roads going in to their bins are a ''mess''

No problem, been trying to hook up with RW for 2 years but just can't seem to get together.
Louisville is ALWAYS a freaking mess IMO
,i actually charge the same rate to go into there as i do to run the WK parkway all the way down to Owensboro hauling grain because i can make that turn from Danville just as fast because of the usual mess. I have not been up there since they re-opened the Sherman-Minton bridge on I64,but surely it will be a little better this fall than it was last fall
rollin coal Thanks this. -
Raining last two days...with all this wheat planted it looks like I'll be running my butt off this harvest. Hauling wheat again next week guess the elevators are getting worried how big this crop may be.
-
Sounds good,it would be nice to see a crop that would be large enough to cause a hopper shortage
.
You still liking your Firestone drives ok? -
Actually, I have goodrich...they have been doing fine they are just a little noisy going down the road. Crosstown hauling was hard on my steers though, too much turning. I'm lucky to get 80,000 miles out of my steers...on any brand.
dairyman Thanks this. -
Are there any hopper bottom owner operators out there in the Northern Illinois area?
-
I'm over in west central IL, and lately I'm not much of a hopper operator, but if I can help you with anything, I'll try.
