. I'm afraid your right, not many farmers are putting corn in bins around here either. You staying busy still with your flat?

Just found this thread, not reading through 668 pages to catch up
. I haul hoppers once in a while, end dumps too hauling wheat n barley n oats n corn n beans n corn gluten n DDG.
Been spreading lime and fertilizer for the past few weeks though, pays a bit better than driving a truck. When they find a guy who can spread fertilizer at 100 lbs/ac and stay half a pound/ac off target as an average ... they pay.
We've started on the corn here a little, still lots of beans on the ground though which is usually pretty well done by now.
How's it look down there?? Been hit or miss here because of the drought. Some guys are getting 1 1/4 T/ac. average for beans which is pretty good considering the summer we've had. Corns been mid to high 3's mostly from what I hear. (mind you the amount of corn we produce in a year is what you guys leave on the ground in the fields lol) -

Years ago I ran dump trucks and trailers. I would probably go with peterbilt or kw for a dump truck...just think they hold up better. They will also cost more but will bring more on resale or trade.
-
I vote KW or pete as well.
Macks make decent dumps but some of 'em are entirely made by mac, tranny and all, I'd stay away from those. They're not bad trucks but macks daddy is volvo now so god knows what directions that's going to take (parts etc.???). Goes without staying but I'll say it anyways ... stay the hell away from purebred volvos as they haven't even figured out how to make good a OTR truck yet.

Old Macks still hold up well. We've got two 98's that are tough as nails. Boss likes them for the 9 spring clutches. I'd get at least the 427 though. Ours have 350's and they get the job done but they really slow down on the hills.
