Hopper, Dump O/O's & Drivers

When I was pulling hopper I wanted a spread badly. Not just for Kansas and the 85,500, but for being able to load it a tad heavy on the rear (just like I did with my flat ) and if ya put a dump valve on the rear axle they aren't that hard to get around. Not to mention they pull a little better. I remember a company that ran into Hutchinson once and a while. They ran Internationals (if I remember correctly) with 4 axles. The trailers were Cornhuskers with 2 down axles and a lift axle on the rear. Thos rides were light even with all that hardware. I think they were out of Nebraska.

 

Probably was Nebraska, they can run the three axles up there. They have different weight laws. Third axle doesn't do much good in Kansas.

 

Ohio does have a set of rules they just started a cpl years ago concerning end dumps, logs trucks and farm equipment stuff... They are giving them a tolerence up to 85/86k, but they have to be coming out of the coal pits, forest or fields and they aren't allowed on the interstate(?).

 

Kansas has something similar for end dumps. They don't enforce the bridge law if you are hauling material that the state uses. Rock or whatever for road work or highway construction. A person can haul to contractor if they are building a road. They can still get you for being over on gross weight.

At least that's what it used to be. I haven't run a end dump in a long time.

 

Anybody been down in Oklahoma recently? Was wondering how far north in Oklahoma the wheat harvest was. Here in SC Kansas the wheat is turning color but not a lot. I have heard the Texas harvest was not good, supposedly oklahoma isn't going to be great either.

This weather keeps up won't be harvesting until end of June. Normal harvest is June 16 or so. I'm a little worried ,with Texas and Oklahoma not doing well ,there are going to be many of their trucks coming up here. A number of north & south dakota trucks come here also.

 

I'm about 20 miles South of the Kansas/Oklahoma line, 10 miles from I-35 and the wheat isn't turning very fast here.

I had a feeling it wasn't going to be turning much along the northern border. It's pretty green in some fields here.

 

Rather than just knowing the government is a bunch of hypocrites, it's nice when they just come out and say it.

 

Yes, basically. In this day and age states don't want to lose any revenue. Kansas some years back raised the motor fuel tax, mainly for road construction. That wasn't too bad they did do a lot of work on the roads.
