Looked it up but couldn't really find answer. I never had heard of hauling peas before UTI talked about it. Bulk Commodity sheet I have doesn't even list them.
Looks like they vary from 25 pounds to 60 pounds, depending on what kind of peas they are. Good bushel weight site to bookmark: http://www.unc.edu/~rowlett/units/scales/bushels.html
The Peas we are Hauling now weigh 60lb/bu I move Peas, Lentils and Chickpeas after different times of the year
I have some buddys up there around williston ,nd. With the oil boom going on in that area thats a pretty cheap rate. He parked his hoppers in the weed row and is pulling oil tanker and hauling water with couple other trucks. Hes leased to a company pulling there trailers and is making 165 per hour to the truck. The housing and all the other exspenses up there is stupid crazy, when mcdonalds and walmarts are paying 20 per hour thats insane. I know from personal exsperience that if the rate is good enough someone would be all over those loads. 8am to 3pm you cant make enough loads in that time frame to be worth your while. Good luck.
Hmm, I ran it by the boss and he says he won't haul by the mile or by the bushel. He said $80 an hour and you find a way to pay the way up there and back. But by my numbers, your rate pays about 139.75 an hour assuming no delays at either end. And I'm figuring all this based on 900 bushels per load, and I have no idea what would fit on our trucks or what permits I could get to run heavy or what they would cost. Or how heavy I could run without being noticed. Hmm...
I assume you mean bulk and not bagged? I have several guys pulling around Convertible Hoppers that gives them a few more options during the slow times and off season..
Most of the feed I haul is bagged on pallets, years ago when my feed guys asked for trucks they just said send me a few hoppers nobody requested a high or low sided hopper. Hope that helps, I don't do much with bulk feed anymore as things could have changed?
What's the diesel prices in your area? Here it's $3.95. One would think rates would go up with higher fuel prices but I haven't seen that. Most grain haulers I know don't get a fuel surcharge...it's in the rates they say, right.
