My gosh. Blow the dang horn. What kind of school was that? Remember a driver told me that their insurance man was at their company drivers meeting. He told the drivers to miss a car etc even if it meant going off the road or into median. He said he told insurance guy no way. If they are gonna trade paint then so be it. He is not gonna be in median or ditch while the knucklehead drives away.

I don't recall too much train horn.. er truck horns ya ya that's it truck horns. Cable is right where it needed to be at all times, none of that problem introducing flawed thinking is needed.

    Just remember this drivah.

If a boy or girl wants you to hit that horn, get it. Those of you with trainhorns make sure you put another vehicle between you and poor bus. You don't know if any of them have a necessary need to shield against that kind of stimuli.

Yea the Close Call I had the other day may have turned out far worse if I actually was able to get o the air horn, I am quite sure the lady in the car would have stopped dead in her tracks leaving me no where to go.

I was just getting up to speed after cutting through the little town by our dairy that I go through every other day.

I was already in the 55 zone but was only doing 40 and was easing up because I saw in the mirror I had a pickup on a mission wanting to get around me.

50 feet up the road I see a car at the stop sign that suddenly pulls out in front of me. I dive for the brakes but go back to my instincts of Avoidance and Swerve for the rear of the car as she is right in front of me with me barreling down on her from her left while she is looking right with a phone to her left ear.

I swerve Right down into the dropped off shoulder of loose gravel and than jump back up on the crossroad where she just pulled out of. I Quickly swerve back Left to avoid hitting the stop sign and utility pole.

Just after a millisecond before that maneuver the thought goes through my head that Hey I missed her .
But oh Krap will the trailer miss her?

In another millisecond I am swerving back hard right trying to straighten up the truck and try to counteract the Wave that my little hard braking has set up.

I glance back in the mirror to see the trailer just barely miss her as the tires come up about 4 inches off the ground.

She never even saw me I believe.

2 miles up the road I was at a stop sign making a right when the pickup that wanted to pass me earlier pulled up in the left lane.
He rolls down the window and yells up at me.

Bet that left a Spot on the seat.

Scary Stuff these people driving out there.

That would be the School of Hard Knocks, my Dad was an alumni too. No consideration of an ‘insurance man’, just common sense. Best drivers I’ve ever known, were calm and could anticipate situations. Big difference between trading paint, and an accident with serious injuries or fatalities. If the cops don’t see your skid marks, you might be headed to prison. The other vehicle in most cases, meant you no harm, just distracted or drunk or impaired, or just plain stupid. I never said don’t blow your dang horn, I did say it’s not a substitute for your brake pedal or common sense.

This comment is not going to make any sense except to the 2 or 3 in here that are also pilots. One of the most important lessons a flight instructor will teach a student is the throttle is altitude and the elevator control is air speed. Just as that is the case there is a direct relationship with a horn, brake pedal and the throttle. Keep on the throttle and you will use a lot of horn. Some drivers will never understand this and that is why they always seem to have accidents. A drivers first instinct with an impending hazard should be to get off that throttle cover the brake and use the horn when absolutely necessary. There is a reason some drivers can go an entire career with no accidents!
