Leave the industry or find a local driving job if you need to be home for things. No carrier can guarantee you'll be home when you need to be without seriously cutting your miles/pay.

It's not dispatch that's your problem...it's the industry. They want to generate revenue to prosper and they can't do that when you're not in the truck.

I did 5 years my first trucking job at a megacarrier so I have some insight.

1st thing if you have an important appointment put in your home time 2 days ahead so if you have something on Wednesday put in to be home on Monday most likely you will arrive on Tuesday anyway. Weekends are always a little tricky.

You have to go off company policy I did six weeks out and 7 days at home they will try to shorten it to six days but if you run your loads on time and don't cause problems stand your ground. If you have family issues and need extra time off leave the truck at a terminal and get out of it otherwise they will want the truck moving. You earn your days off no extra.

I've been in the office before and drivers are lazy and will say they can't drive for silly reasons. Also your dispatcher has a manger on his ### all day.

Just put in your home time a week ahead and roll with the rest not much choice.

Most companies are the same if your clock is good they expect you to be rolling.

Fleet managers are always changing positions so that makes it more difficult.

I've been at it a decade now if I could go back I'd find a local job that's off on weekends even if I had to drive 45 minutes to work. I bought a new truck and trailer 4 years ago and control every move I make but it came at a high cost. Save what you can get rid of debt and make it worth it. I made bank as a company driver and blew every bit of it.

    It's really a single mans / single lady's game

Remember one important thing ALL the dispatchers sit together so if your an ### to one your an ### to them all.
Good luck my man we all been there you will find a driver that will complain about every company its what you make it.

I gave a dispatcher hell once for being in the shop for three days after that I was in the northeast with 2 short loads a day for a month I realized I was an ### so I just asked for another load after the next then the bad blood was over eventually.
