Sounds like ya got an antisocial, slack jawed, mouth breather for a trainer. Got off that truck at the next truck stop or terminal and get a new trainer. No one is holding you there by force.

Just curious here, do you know if you are his first student? If he has never trained before, he may be more nervous than you are. Is it possible that you have intimidated him some way without realizing it?
Instructors need to be able to teach. And if this guy is so shy that he can't open his mouth then he shouldn't be an instructor.
I'm suggesting that before you call your company, you need to talk to him, in a non-confrontational manner, and tell him what your concerns are. And give him time to answer you. You might even have to "pull" information out of him. But give him a chance to explain and perhaps change before ratting him out.
Now, that being said: You have to look out for YOURSELF. This is YOUR training and your career here. So don't take what I said in the last paragraph to extremes. If it just isn't going to work, go ahead and call the company and get another trainer. You owe yourself that much! -
I don't know man, maybe he is just letting you get the feel for it. My instructor told me for the first week, its all me, he will only butt in if i'm about to wreck. If I didn't have it down by then we where going boot camp style.
Not trying to be a downer, but what do you have to loose by saying something to him about it. -
I agree. Talk to the instructor first. I know a lot of instructors at Prime from hangin out on the pad. Some wont say anything unless your doin something unsafe, some will talk you to death. They all have different teaching styles. Respectfully voice your concerns, if that doesnt work, call your FM. The main number can get you to reefer dispatch and your FM. All else fails... send a macro 12 "MESSAGE TO DISPATCH". That goes straight to your dispatcher. Just send it durin the day or it will go to night dispatch who is usually pretty useless.

Try talking with him first i remember my 1st student i was nervous and not sure what to say, then one time when we stopped he confronted me and come to find out we had a lot in common. To this day we are both good freinds and are in contact with one another.
Boonie Thanks this. -
