Never said it was junk, bud. I'm saying that with the types of new drivers that could destroy a tank, this would be a good choice of engine. And I was being a smart ###, too.Lepton1 and Diesel Dave Thank this.

The new generation of drivers want to get into a new trucks with automatics(a majority of them).
I learned from the bottom, from a 1970 GMC(cracker box)with a 6-71 jimmy, then move up to a 8V71 318 jimmy then a 12V71. The O/O I drove for back, loved those Detroits. Anyways, just brings back the memories. This is how you learned trucking 101 style, old school of hard knocks.passingthru69 and Crude Truckin' Thank this. -
iv pulled 96k + lbs with a 11.1L detroit at like 365hp and i think 1350 tq with a 9 speed. certainly not the most enjoyable but it got the job done. 80k lbs 450hp 1650 tq is sufficient more is always nice though.
Crude Truckin' Thanks this. -

I started with a 6-71 and a 10 speed in a ragged out Ford LN9000 with about 700000 miles on it. And was THRILLED at the privilege of driving it when I first got my license 37 years ago.austinmike, Diesel Dave, Crude Truckin' and 1 other person Thank this.

I hear ya! I'm 33 now, but learned at 15 in an 84 IH COE with a Cummins and a 13, and a 90 T600, 3406B with a 5x4. Been driving legally since I was 18. Fortunate enough that I didn't need truckin' college.Bean Jr. and LandslideRich Thank this.
