I am currently driving a Prostar with Cummins isx15 400 HP 1450 torque it does the job but hills suck arse... If I had the choice I would get 475 to 500hp 1650 to 1750 torque... When you have more power you can put more stress on the engine one of the reasons megas don't have more power... These new guys would tear up these engine by going hammer down every hill and every chance they get... Hell fresh out of school I would of too... No one taught me any different

They did it yrs and yrs ago with alot less than what we use now..Use low pro tires,properly geared and tranny to fit and you dont need big power..

 

500 hp and 1850 torque. Yes, you can get by with 450, but 500 hp will perform better, easier on the driver, less strain pulling loads up long grade and on a 48 state truck get the same fuel economy or better than 450 when loaded. Don't buy a flatlander truck for coast to coast running.

EDIT: and you want a 3:55 gear ratio. Will be a sweet ride.
