OK, you win. You had to bring manhood into it. I'm putting down all of my savings on a 750 hp truck tomorrow. Thanks.

Either Talljoe or a mod deleted it right away but I'll suffice by saying he basically said big horsepower made you a man. That's the PG version anyway.sangtito Thanks this.

I undeleted it, I ain't no #####. I drive 400hp white Volvo though....shame on me...A big man riding a donkey....

Brettj3876, sangtito and 86scotty Thank this. -
Bigger engine has to "work less" to move the same weight as a smaller engine. Both could be 500 hp but one is a 13L and the other a 15L, the latter one is going to get better mpg with a good driver. Most of the time giving it a boost in power like an ECM tune will also produce better mpg given that you know how to use the power only when you need itHegemeister, Cam Roberts, Oldironfan and 2 others Thank this.

I had a 2006 Century with a Mercedes MBE4000 450 hp.
I pulled super b trains with it (140,000 lbs). First through the mountains of British Columbia. Later on the Prairies. Had an 18 spd tranny with 4.11 rears.
It did the job, but it did it slow. On the plus side it did it cheap. Was pretty good on fuel compared to our other guys.
Now I have a 600 hp DD16 in a Cascadia. It’s a lot more fun to drive but doesn’t get any better mpg then the 450 did.
It’s all a compromise. There is no right answer, even if you found a perfect truck for the job, it may not be perfect for your next job.
Go with what you can afford, reliability is a more important consideration now a days.Hegemeister, Dino soar, Oldironfan and 1 other person Thank this. -
Horsepower is not that important. I personally value high horse engines on the theory that more horsies use less fuel and less problems in the hilly midwest among other things.
Being a newbie to this industry and asking about horses to buy a truck? I don't think you have sufficient experience to even be in that position. Be a company man for a while preferably a few years so you really understand what is out there.
My first and only truck I bought had a 425 cat with a Rockwell short 9, that combination in the mid 90's made for a truck that ran really well.
But nothing like the engines out now. The more horse and torque the better.Oldironfan and sangtito Thank this. -
Thank you. But what I need to know right now, despite if I’m gonna get the truck soon or wait until I got the experience like you said, is if a cascadia evolution with 450hp is enough for me. Even with more experience that I will get along the way my truck would still do any kind of job I will do. Or, just get the bigger engine with bigger hp since most of the big bucks require bigger truck.

So. Based on realibility what truck is your recommendation?
-
I learned. Get a bigger size engine. If I see two trucks with the same hp get the one with bigger engine. Any brand and model?Oldironfan Thanks this.
