Yes and no both. No in the sense you there is no requirement that makes you do a 34. Yes in the fact you won't have hours back until Monday night, so you will be taking a 34 just because you can't drive until longer than 34 hours pass.
(And yes, I'm ignoring the fact of how you are going to manage zero on-duty time)

rustymike and Bean Jr. Thank this.

Yes there is. And if you want to get all technical he could take a 10 and drive 4 hrs then take a reset, 34hrs, or a recap but he MUST do 1 or the other. It's in the reg's.
Time wise he would be better off to just take a 34 right then at 66 hrs.

    rustymike Thanks this.

    No there isn't a requirement to do a 34. It's 100% optional.
(If you think there is, show the regulation, you won't find it)

rustymike and Bean Jr. Thank this.

At 70 hrs it's not an option, it's a minimum requirement. The only other option is up to 72 hrs and that's not an option to me.
Twist it any way you want.

    rustymike Thanks this.

Yes it is an option. It's a stupid one, but that wasn't the question.
He can 100% choose to run recap and not drive until Monday night. We are talking hypothetically here as there is no way to do that schedule anyway.

rustymike and Bean Jr. Thank this.

I should have added a little more detail to my first post. The run offered to me is 11 hours from origin to destination plus 1.5 hours for pre and post trip, break and fuel. The company says it can be done in a 8 day 70 hour week. I come up with 75 hours. Did I miss something ?

    Boondock Thanks this.

12.5 x 6 = 75, so no. Now if they are planning on you logging off duty for breaks, and depending on how long breaks are you might just squeeze by.
Either way I'm not sure I would want the stress of having such a tight schedule. One flat tire ruins the whole week.

You could do 6 in 8 days with a reset. But not on a recap.
And no I wouldn't do it every week.

rustymike and Bean Jr. Thank this.
