An easy way to solve the HOS problem and address all your issues is if drivers pretended they only had 10 hours to drive and used the 11 th hour only if they can get home or find safe parking in that sacred 11th hour.

My first thought was, this might not be a good thing. Megas (and others) are going to expect drivers to work 18 hours a day.

The more flexibility you give companies, the worse the industry is going to get.

    I love it.
Every time they change the rules
my company gives us a raise
And I get to work less hours.
    I love it,

    More money,
    Less work,
Sounds like a winner to me.

As a company driver I kinda was ok with how the rule was. Just trip plan and if SHTF and you’re running against your 14 because of shipper or receiver BS then all I do is write on the tablet the situation and how I can’t move no more. I haven’t driven tired ever since I was in this company. I wouldn’t mind the 14 hour clock being increase to 16 hrs and the 30 minute break removed but that’s it honestly. They should have a separate clock rules for true owner operators not fake misclassfied 1099 drivers. I’m talking about real owner ops that can take as much hometime as they wish and do what the hell they want to the truck. Give those guys more Lee-way but the company folks need the current rules so dispatchers don’t screw us or threaten to give us horrible loads for not driving tired.

The 30-minute break is a waste of 30 minutes.

I hate it when I am getting within hours of a receiver and it’s late and I am tired but I have to push on

I would love to take a 6 hour bunk that night and drive 2 hours in the morning and roll into my 8 am appointment. But nope. Need minimum 8 for a split.

So instead drive Super tired down the last stretch of road which is usually sketchy winding dark country roads.

Oh and I got so well rested earlier trying to find a spot to take a 30 at all the full oasis’s going around Chicago

That would mean America loses 9.1% of its trucking capacity.

Nope. We still have the 70 hour rule so drivers won’t have that “4” hour day every week
