I just got my first violation recorded on the Qualcomm. How much would a fine for something like this cost?

I drive to the consignee. 2 minutes remains for drive time. Plenty of on duty time. Very large facility. Ran out of driving time going for door. Stopped changed to on duty - yard move. Got to 6 mph, went into violation. Stopped put it on PC, and docked my truck.

On yard move speed should not be restricted to 5mph. Something wasn't right there.

i used it the other day and I’m sure I was well above 5. I think the difference today is that I had zero time remaining to drive. The other day there was time remaining. Could that be it?

How about potent fine cost? Hundreds? Thousands?

1st of all, you would only be penalized by the DOT if they should happen to audit your logbook during an inspection. Depending on the amount of time that has passed since the violation, they may not even catch it.
Second, you should be able to go in and comment for that change of duty status, that it was a yard move on private property. If it was only a very brief violation, it could be considered an honest and reasonable mistake, and probably a one time thing.
Unless you get a DOT cop that has a hard on to cite you, it will probably be OK.
Just be aware that it could happen again, and if you end up with several violations like this, it could get you into trouble.

Like snowlauncher said, your only busted by dot if they pull you in at the scale house and find it, or less likely later on in a company audit. You will need to call your saftey department and clarify that violation with them.

FMCSA safety auditors are happy when they see violations have been "corrected" and they actually look for these corrections during audits. Don't be scared of safety. Let them know ASAP and they will tell you what to do next. Learn from it now and try to not repeat.
