It’s a violation because he worked 14 then only took off 8 before starting to work again.. had he took the 2 off before his 14 was up 8 would be enough.. but he didn’t so 10 is needed

It says he took 10 off and it's a violation of the 10 hour rule. But there is no 10 hour rule as they are describing it. The example even show 10 hours Off-Duty in the addition column.

OK, I think I see what they're saying. In the first graph in that example they started at 7AM after having 8 hours off duty. Then they stopped at 9PM, took 8 hours off duty and started again. Therefore both the 7 hours at the start of the day and the 3 hours at the end of the day were part of a required 8 and that is the violation. In the second graph they count the first two hours from 7PM to 9PM as the other two hours before taking the required 8. Not sure if that makes sense but basically you can't work 14 straight, take 8 off, work 14 take 8, rinse and repeat which would have you starting 2 hours earlier each day. Or as @magoo68 said if you don't take the extra 2 throughout the day then 10 is required before starting your next shift.Last edited: Sep 21, 2019

Agree.
Here's where it can be found btw
Commercial Vehicle Operators’ Safety Manual -
This is why I'm not working in an office for a trucking company as a safety/compliance person, nor am I running a paper log. It's also why I usually take 10 off in Canada unless I really need to catch up some time.tinytim Thanks this. -
Thanks guys, not4hire I haven't looked into how rules differ in other province.
