What the officer knows and what he can prove are two different things. I got busted because I admitted I left the sleeper. If you don't admit anything, he's got nothing.

Honestly, unless you are trying a split break which REQUIRES you to be in the sleeper uninterrupted for 8 hours, should it really matter how you log your off time, as long as you don't move the truck? I guess it just seems to be rather petty.

...so I went and cleaned my truck today even though I'm off duty- should I log it as in the sleeper??

I will just keep doing it as common sense dictates. cant imagine anyone being that petty.

As to the original question, No, there is no regulation stating the maximum time spent in the sleeper.
As to spending 72 hours straight in the sleeper. Yep, I have done that. Been locked in a Military Safe Haven for more than one holiday weekend, with no facilities availible, not even a porta-potty. I do have a large sleeper and I am fully self contained. I have food and a way to prepare it. I have hot and cold running water, a sink and a shower. I do have onboard facilities for bodily wastes.

Nope, that is line 4, "On Duty, Not Driving", as that would be considered "Servicing of the Vehicle".

I've spent a weekend on wait.. log my time in the sleeper and my time off duty, max of 15 hrs off or less in one period.. I also log 15 min block off when in sleeper as break if nature calls .. no problem thus far

Thank you all for the replies !

Yep, I just discovered that this driver was cited for log violation. He admitted that he stepped out to eat, shower, shave and nature calls . Now THAT makes sense because the log book entries technically were incorrect. Now, add the fact that he was mouthing off to the Officer *sigh* ....he asked for it

Not unusual, mouthing off will get no sympathy from anyone, especially a cop.

Thats the key, don't admit anything. Loose lips sink ships.

My brother in law spent 4 days in a disabled MRAP in Afghanistan. He did not get out of his chair for 96 hours... Dropped a duce in an MRE bag, washed himself with dirty socks.

If he can do it why cant a truck driver?

Because we aren't in battlefield conditions where staying under cover is tantamount to survival versus convenience.
