I don't know about a whole week but 2 days as a warning. Give them a chance to get their act together. I would settle for them just to leave the current hours as is. The problem with taking a whole week off. Trying to deliver and pick up a load would be a nightmare. Also not everybody would be able to get home, and somebody in the middle of nowhere is not going to want to sit there. Also warning the perishable companies. Because you don't want product going bad in a trailer not to ship that week. I'm sure you would get the attention of the government b4 July even came around. But of course it's all a pipe dream and whoever organized it would be charged with terrorism. But It was a nice thought.

A whole week during that time should be no problem. The 4th is Thursday of that week. Monday thru Wednesday will be the only real productive days anyway. So shutting down that week should be a non issue with just about everyone. You are talking about shutting down 2 day is ok, what, you going to then go to work for one day that week? Why not take the whole week off and do something relaxing? Those that have a load on, they can deliver Monday and then get something home. I realize that carriers haven't a clue about how to plan schedules, so the driver needs to be proactive.
That is what makes this timing so neat.... it will be a low productive week anyway, so why not shut the truck down and go fishing or whatever for the week? This would be the easiest situation to be able to have the majority do this without putting a real crimp in their income. If they stay out, they will be just sitting at a nasty truck stop killing time anyway for the 4th of July holiday.Dinomite Thanks this. -
Heard this very thread brought up on roaddog today. Along with some of y'all's responses to this thread. Thought I'd throw that out there!

Nothing that wasn't said here first!
I read a lot of this thread the other day so i didn't pay too much attention. heard them bring up RickG and Carrkool's replies. Brought up that even pulling an MT trailer might be considered a laden truck which wouldn't allow for personal conveyance, agreed with Carrkool, flag it in the book and hope you don't get I trouble for it. Rock and a hard spot.
More of a "what would you do?" Segment.
