No exemption needed, your on private property. You don't even need a CDL to yard jockey. However it seems their using that as a way to work you like a slave, unless your ok with those hours.

My big question here is why the hell would they even consider a goat driver to need a log! If he just operates in the yard, he sure doesn't go out beyond the "local" area where logs are not required, just trip sheets. What am I missing here, (other than a brain. . .):biggrin_2552:

Some companies require road drivers to shag trailers when they get in the yard.

One thing came to mind...his company could be using the log as a time card instead of having an actual time clock.

That is not required under law as long as you don't venture out on to a public road.

Company policy however is another matter.

    Yes.

One can work a 20 hour day in the yard if they want. But in order to be able do drive again he would need a 10 hour break.

One can work in the yard for 3 days straight and it would also be a non-issue. But in order to drive again that driver would have to take 34 hours off first. Although obviously any outfit requiring that is certainly worthy of the description "slave driver". :)

It's all about protecting the public by limiting driving time, since that is when the public is presumably "at risk".

15 minute pre trip, 15 minute post trip, 30 minute break, and 11 hours driving adds up to a 12 hour day.

30 min break is offduty time, and vehicle inspection on duty not driving. Still 11 hours of driving. Use the proper words.

What words did I use wrong? It's still a 12 hour day no matter how you slice it.
