Good day all: looking for assistance with the below question as I haven’t been able to find an answer online / within the HOS guidelines.
In the USA, how many hours per day can:
1) a team driver drive a day cab
2) how long per day cab the truck run: I’ve heard 16-18 and 29
3) is there a minimum shutdown period required before the daily clock resets
Example: driver 1 does 10 hours of driving and the. Driver 2 logs an additional 10 hours the same day. Driver 1 has been off duty for 10 hours but in the passenger seat.
Hoping this makes sense. Thanks to all in advance.

Neither driver 1 or 2 can be off duty more than 2 hours in the passenger seat. Anything past that is on duty. I don't see how you can legally run teams in a day cab.

Thanks @kemosabi49, this is why I am looking for something definite from the guidelines. Cheers.

I'll tag @ZVar on this.

Lot of day cabs have a roof fairing. And they make duct tape for a reason. Just saying.
That said kemosabi has the correct info. There is really not going to be a great way to run teams in a day cab legally my tounge in cheek suggestion aside. Best thing to do if you need a day cab for X reason is get a coffin sleeper. They dont add a lot to the trucks size or weight and give the other driver a place to take a nap. That said i dont know too many people who would willingly run teams that way long or often.
I did teams 5 years with my dad and we had a big 80 inch sleeper and even that got old #### fast. Doing that in a coffin woulda been torture.Bean Jr. and SJQuartermaine Thank this. -
Thanks as well. This wouldn’t be an ongoing arrangement. We have some longer runs from CANADA into the US coming up and I want to know the regs. Cheers all

Fair enough. In that case a coffin sleeper if you can get one or mod one of your day cabs to have is going to be by far your best bet. You could also do one of those little hot shot sleeper things as a temporary thing. Kinda like this.
Not the most comfortable thing but if they are one off or short duration loads just pop out the back window slot that on set the 5th wheel a bit further back and send it. Can likely mod a truck to hold that for around $4-6K new or buy an old used one and do the work yourself for 2k or so.Bean Jr. and gentleroger Thank this. -
Our team couldn't run team in a daycab. The downside of lease trucks and breakdown is oftentimes the only loaner available will be a daycab. The rules are just as bad as split sleeper rules, imo.
