I've been in this for 32 years. yes I'm medically out of the drivers seat but for the first 10 years I can tell you that every log I wrote was a funny page! Nothing matched and I also paid some stupid fines when I got caught. Enough to realize that I lost MORE money than I made!

The next 7 or 8 years I got better and even redrew a "few" pages but didn't have to pay anything!
The past 19 years I figured out that legal was a whole lot easier and cheaper and not so hard on the brain! Most companies know when and where you'll be loading or unloading and if they pre plan then what's the sense in logging illegal? And these days from reading and experiencing the slow down whats the use as you'll be sitting anyway! Might as well keep it legal down to the times you punch in on your QComm, run your fuel card and cross a scale or toll.

Every thing has a time on it if it went through a computerized system! EVEN if you paid cash at a fuel stop and they ran it through a cash register! There WILL be a date and a time and quite possibly a picture to accompany it!

CSA2010 is coming up in less than 20 days and if you haven't read anything about these new and really stupid rules it's time you figured it out!

It's not the company who is in trouble because a driver falsified a log but the person dumb enough to falsify it! YOU now get the points AND the fines! If you have never watched a DOT inspection it's an eye opener! They have programs to go into EVERY place in America that sells diesel fuel sell you a scale ticket or repairs on your truck and trace a receipt! Think putting down fueling more than 15 minutes to a day is helping you? Nope! They have you and it's all on a piece of paper you signed!

Until this economy gets back up and running and the loads pick up there is no need to falsify a log or worry about how many miles you can log in 11 hours. Besides the fines now start at $1500 PER VIOLATION! Nope I think if I get back on the road I'll log legal!

And for that question you asked about how many miles you can log "legally", do the math! What ever your company allows you to log at at times 11 hours! Why do you people keep asking that stupid question?

Just remember that if you have satellite communications, an engine with an ECM or a cell phone and you screw the pooch and cause damage to a vehicle or property the lawyers of whoever you hit will get all of those records and will go through them with a fine toothed comb and as you probably guessed, you loose!

The days of logging illegally are gone and it's time we figured it out! Even to the miles you drove in that 11 hours!

    I do not see how.

The driver is still going to have to show what was done when the truck was idle.

You have a thing for this I guess.

But when someone is unloading a car hauler, I really doubt they would be eligible for detention time. I would think they were getting paid to load and unload.

My example is just to show that it took longer than 15 minutes or so to unload the car hauler.

With who I drive for, we have set windows for delivery, and locals who get the trailers loaded and brought to our yard in Sacramento. So my log is ALWAYS legal, I am Line 3 till I set the brakes in the dock, Line 4, 15 minutes to take BOL's to the receiver, line 1 until empty and they bring my signed bills to me, then back to Line 3 as I leave...they close the doors as I pass security so I am in the drivers seat.

In the van groups, unless you have to count freight, or stand by the door at loading, you can be Line 1, off duty, as long as you are not responsible for anything going on around the vehicles. that is for loading, as to unloading...basically the same thing...until time to pull forward and get your doors closed...that would technically 15 minutes Line 3, pulling forward then to Line 4, to get out and close the doors...but there would be a legal short cut I just thought of...since in the same city, you could skip the Line 3 to pull forward, and start at Line 4 to close doors, then go to Line 3 when you leave.

but that technicality could bite you in the butter, if the LEO wasn't in a good mood or didn't get to play chop sticks with mama the night before.:biggrin_25523:

Also, on a 14 hour day driving 11 hours how many miles can you get.[/QUOTE]

Out of Hours in a short time! 70/11=6.3 Days!
Unless you want to do a restart about every 6 Days that is not good!
70/8=8.75hrs a day will keep you moving everyday!

The car haulers I know and there are a few, are not paid to load or unload, they are paid by the load from point a to b and nothing is figured in for load/unload time.

IE: Pick up at east coast port, deliver in Colorado load pays 800.00 thats it nothing more nothin less, no matter how long it takes to load, unload and driver there.
