Wait.. so when do you log off-duty at shippers? They thought that was ok? What about the regs previously posted in here that says that would be a violation???

I call my bathroom stop, tire checks in the logbook and would suggest being careful about not flagging them. What if that DOT sees you pulling onto the highway and decides to pull you over ? :biggrin_25521:

Pay the clerk on the way out.:biggrin_2559: Depends on where I am, If I was in TX, I would, too, but, not so much other places I have been. Iowa, too but I seldom have to drive enough in Iowa to need to stop. Last week was an exception.

To the OP, you are new, take note of a little experience from those of us who aren't so new, and stop rehashing this over and over. I log on duty as much as I'm out of the truck, some places that might be three hours, but if I'm in the sleeper after backing into the dock, I'm on line 3, and no one has ever questioned that. !5 minutes on duty generally doesn't get questioned and they aren't watching your every move, yet. Give them time.:biggrin_2554::biggrin_25524::biggrin_2555:

I usually log 15 on duty when I get there, then go off duty until I'm actually loaded/unloaded, which can be a couple hours or more depending on the place, and then log 15 on again before I leave. Cause really, that's the actual work I do on most loads. I'm not going to log on duty when I'm doing nothing but sitting there waiting to get loaded or unloaded.

    Don't worry,

your company will micro-manage you to death.

They will let you know how THEY want things logged.

    Good Luck !!

If there's something in the regs about logging or flagging a 5 minute bathroom break, I'm sure they'll be happy to show it to me. It does say in the rules that a stop of less than half of 15 minutes does not require a change from one line to another. As for flagging it, well, they did away with flagging load checks so that's what that was.

I was not aware they did away with this rule and actually find it hard to believe. I'm not saying your incorrect but pulling flatbed, Are you not suppose to check the load within the first 50-75 miles of movement ? Straps/chains lose tension ?

I believe what they did away with was the requirement for "tire checks" when hauling haz-mat loads...because anyone with ill-intentions only had to follow a truck for a brief period of time before they knew the truck would be stopping somewhere for the driver to get out and check the tires. That made that haz-mat load vulnerable for theft and other mischief....so they changed the regulation to state that you must check the tires whenever you stop, not that you HAD to stop JUST to check the tires. In other words, it could be 30 minutes or 6 hours up the road...whenever the driver chose to make a stop....not the set time/distance that used to be in the regs.

You do have to do load checks, you just don't have to flag them. Marks on a page won't keep your load from falling off the truck. They finally realized that just before I went OTR in 07 for Arrow. I said that it was a silly rule and I wasn't going to waste the time marking it down and everyone, literally everyone, told me that they'd just done away with that rule so I didn't have to.

    Hazmat rules are something else.
