Either way, it comes down to how to manage time. I never logged off duty unless i was out of the truck for an extended time with no truck business to deal with like food shopping. Fuelling, waiting to fuel and that is all on duty activities.

A few minutes is a lot!!!bamalife123 Thanks this.

You ain't making money if you're logging waiting in line and 4-6 hours at a receiver as on dutybamalife123 Thanks this.

Well I guess that's too bad when barney pulls you over, sees your logs and then gives you a citation for it. 5 minutes or even 15 isn't going to kill your time, taking a load that is so tight to remain on schedule can (like when people figure 55 mph and not 47 mph for travel time), it can't be the fault of the driver ... right?
I have drivers who do this stuff for a living, I have yet had one complain about wait times at the fuel isle and having to go off duty to keep their 70. When I did the OTR thing, I never had an issue, I really never had a late delivery because of fuel and I never logged off duty when I fuel up.
Remember that you guys are in charge, not the company. You are not a slave.bamalife123 Thanks this. -
True,it does add up.Thats just how I logged I got the miles so those every few minutes didn't affect my hours or pay. With the companies that made me sit more then drive I didn't care if I remained on line 3 or 4 while waiting to fuel. But if the line was long like a half hour wait then I would log off duty.bamalife123 Thanks this.

I skipped ahead so I maybe repeating some of this. So forgive me but this is one of the things that really p is s me off.
If you have been told to log off duty while waiting to fuel THAT IS ILLEGAL. Get that in writing. When you pull up to fuel you are on duty as you are sitting behind the wheel of the tractor waiting for the line to move. No company or company employee has the right to tell you otherwise. What you do is up to you but if a DOT officer was sitting next to you and you did that you would be put out of service.
You are on duty, not driving anytime you have a responsibility to the truck. Sitting in line you have responsibility. Fueling you have responsibility. After you fuel and walk in to get your receipt you have responsibility. All of this time is on duty not driving. Now once you have your receipt and are getting your Big Mac you are off duty. But until then all is on duty.
I cannot stress enough that the logs are yours not the companies. Log as you want to but if the company tells you something that is wrong make sure you ask for that in WRITING. If they won't do that, then they are full of manure.RedRover, bamalife123 and pattyj Thank this. -
No dispatcher or company not now not ever will tell me how to log.I'd like to see them try.RedRover, Wooly Rhino and bamalife123 Thank this.

This is the way to save your 14.
If you have a long line. Log 5-6 mins for fueling then hope for a 30 before you get through the line.
Or log 26 mins on duty and then 30 min break.
56 mins vs 36 mins.
You'll only get stuck without a bathroom one time when you really need one or a half hour from your bed and wife before you figure out what works best.
Good luck!bamalife123 Thanks this. -
What in gods name does a company have to do with my time?
I get paid by the mile... Maximizing my time to make the most miles is ME!!
It has nothing to do with a late delivery..
He can pull me over and checked often... Looks great!bamalife123 Thanks this. -
You don't drive much or get many miles then...bamalife123 Thanks this.
