I would like save on expenses and instead of wasting $ on an apt or house I am seriously considering living in a hotel for the one or 2 days I am off per month for over a year..?
No family or spouse involved..
If anyone is doing or has done this I'd love to hear your input..
I have someone I can use for my "home" address or I'll use UPS store..

There are a lot of people that do this.
One lady member called rocks has been doing it for quite a while, she always stays at the same motel and has a storage building close that she keeps her stuff in.
I never did not have a home base, but anytime I was on the road on a dedicated deal for any period of time, I would usually get a room at a motel on saturday night and do laundry and lay up for my 34 off every week. It is nice to get out of the truck now and then.p608, Tx Countryboy, singlescrewshaker and 3 others Thank this. -
It's cheaper than paying $1000 rent for an apartment you will never be at, and utilities. Find the closest reasonably priced motel close to your terminal and have at it. Save some money.
Your carrier might put you up in one on their dime if it's just for a couple days. Ask. If I want a motel room I just need to ask. I won't get layover pay, but it's there if I want it. I just stay in the truck though. -
I prefer my truck to a hotel in all honestly. Then again I have satilite tv, satilite radio, a WiFi hotspot, an Apu and a really good mattress. Only thing it's missing is a bathroom!
BigDog Trucker, tscottme, Bean Jr. and 4 others Thank this. -
What brand/type of mattress are you using..?

I do the same. I have a home, but am usually only here a week out of the month. The freight I haul, I usually run Mon-Fri., sometimes I stop early Friday & run a few miles Saturday. Get a motel for Sat, & Sun night to get out of my massive 36" flat top for a couple nights. Do laundry at the motel, or close by.
If I didn't have an ol' lady, & pets I'd probably sell my house & save the money till I wanted to do more localized work. It's tough to carry a mortgage payment for something I use very little. If I was single, I think I'd do exactly what the OP wants to do..Floman Thanks this. -
just dont stay at the old hotel in lincolnton Alabama at the old truckstop. nice rooms, but this lady was running around screaming. jesus is coming jesus is coming. bad part is she didnt look too bad. that was after 3 months in the truck tho. trucking is like beer. after weeks and weeks on the road. 1 night outside the truck and the ladies look better each hour.BigDog Trucker, sherlock510, Bean Jr. and 3 others Thank this.

I realize you didn't ask me, but I have a 36"x80"x8" sleep dog. It was about $500, but it's very comfortable. I sleep on my side & used to get a sore hip & have to roll every hour or so. Now I can sleep in the same position all night. Its 2years old, & just as nice as the day I got it. The edge hasn't sagged at all either from sitting on the side of it. Last I looked they may not make the 8" anymore. I think they are 7" & 9" now.
Lots of choices out there. Some will scoff at $500, but my home mattress was $2200. I spend more time in the truck bunk, so $500 is cheap to be comfortable imo..
The minimizer mattresses look really nice too..TequilaSunrise, truckdriver31 and Floman Thank this. -
I have the same hip problem so that is why I am asking around ahead of time.. Thanks for your response!SteveScott, singlescrewshaker and truckdriver31 Thank this.
