I’ve seen 3500 Dually trucks pulling a 35’+5’ trailer with full loads while driving. I’ve seen both with beds and with out. I’m buying a Dually in TX to be an owner operator with in the 65’ rule(not exceed it). Is it a Law that I can not remove the bed on a pick up truck? Yet I’ve seen plenty of 1 ton trucks with out a bed hauling trailers. Covers in Diamond plate and job boxes.

Remove ng the bed simply slows you to pull over the 65' law. At that point your truck is considered a tractor and thus can be up to 75 feet in length. If you plan to stay at the 65' mark, you can keep the bed on or remove it if you prefer. There's no law stating that you have to keep it.

A pickup box will limit the types of trailers you can pull and the length of the truck. It has to be a gooseneck style trailer to clear the bed sides. With a hauler bed or hotshot upfit like from Hitchcrafters you can pull deckover style trailers with a 5th wheel hitch for more deck space.
