By law as pointed out, trucking is exempt from force overtime pay. But everything is negotiable. You did right by refusing to work cheaply. Now if we could only get the newbies to refuse to work for less then 40 cpm.
Remember, even hookers get overtime pay.

I know it isn't fair but truck drivers do not get paid overtime.I never realized how bad of a deal that was till the last company I drove locally for.Worked every bit of my 13 to 14 hrs a day and got paid for 9 hrs at most a day.Which is the biggest reason why im not driving now.I didn't get paid hourly either so that added more fuel to the fire. After doing some mathwork I wasn't even making min wage.I see an ad in the paper for this job every other week, gee I wonder why.

Hi patty, yeah, I wonder if this is covered in the orientation when driver's get hired. SURPRISE! I think I've said this before, but I check CL like once a week, and I'll see jobs offered, then gone for a while, then back on "the list" again.

I never realized just how low pay driving is for otr and local till me last job. That line 4 is is crap if we don't get paid for every minute onduty.Orientation is what $50.00 a day and you're onduty 8 to 10 hrs a day. What about detention time while sitting at the terminal waiting for your trk to get done. What's that$25.00 a day?Wish drivers would protest this but we're at the mercy of companies I guess.[QUOTE="semi" retired;4093776]Hi patty, yeah, I wonder if this is covered in the orientation when driver's get hired. I notice that about craigslist. You really have to read between the lines.I see so many ads in the paper,on craigs list and at my local employment office looing for drivers but they leave so much out and make it sound good when in reality it sucks big time.

Drivers are our most valuable asset they say, more like valuable ### .The pay proves that.Thank god Ray pays my bills.I will continue to look for a driving job but will not settle working for peanuts.Im far better then that and so is every single driver out there right now.

You know, okie, one day, I couldn't contain myself any longer, and responded to an ad that claimed like .30cpm to start. Nice guy answered the post, I said, you've got a lot of nerve paying that. That was a crummy wage 20 years ago. His response, well, times are tough, and people need jobs. My response was, well, it's a shame that's how you are getting drivers, by hiring people that are out of options. He never got back to me.

As long as noone will step in and enforce better pay, companies will continue to pay drivers only for the miles and not the extra pay for the extra work they have to do and log it on line 4.
