Another tragic statement as a result of 'puppy-mill' schools. The school is only going to teach you as much as you need to pass the CDL exam - nothing more. Logs, HOS, route planning, time management, etc. is what most companies have 'trainers' for. Unfortunately, it seems most trainers are worthless (according to most posts I've read here). My advice for you is to spend all your downtime educating YOURSELF. Read the books, the codes, the law. Take any 'legal' advice from other people with a grain of salt. Trust, but verify. Its kinda like learning a new language - immerse yourself into the culture and you will be amazed how fast you pick it up. At home, with other distractions, you may NEVER find yourself feeling like you are ready. Best of luck and keep us posted!!

You definitely want a school with 160 hours or more for the best options after you graduate. At one time, a school being PTDI certified was a big deal, but, not so much now. It, however, would be a good place to start researching schools in your area.

Yeah that's what I figured out. As one guy said, it's about insurance because you can take your test at the DMV if you want so not a federal law or anything. Sounds like it's so the companies can save money on their insurance.

i think the minimum "most companies" would like to see is 160 hours..

then it goes up from there, like 300, 400, etc..

at best, 40 hours is usually a refresher course for a driver that already has his/her CDL, but hasn't driven in a while.

but in of itself, there really isn't any government requirement.

in fact, what you paid of the $3;500, is usually the 160 hour long course, where a school near me charges.

Nothing from our blessed Govt requires anything.

And yes you really went to a crappy school. You would think that there is some sort of redress open to you because that is too #### much money to burn on too little.

My schooling was half classroom, half driving if we were not learning under the hot sun on the gravel.
