Okay. I keep seeing threads discussing how certain companies use the Household Movers Guide to calculator your paid miles. I've done a search of the web and no where I can find a copy of this "guide". I've seen this very question asked in the forum before, but it seems no one as ever directly described or linked the actual source of these mileage calculations. Is it a formula? A pocket guidebook? A pamplet? A 300 page book? A website? A software application?

House Hold movers guide.. in a nut shell..
lets say you load west side of columbus ohio.. going to east side Atlanta Ga.
You will get paid from zip code to zip code.. now the beltway around columbus is 50 miles.. so lets say half way around 25 miles.. lets say the beltway around Atlanta is 75 miles.. so half way is 37.5 miles.. remember you are getting paid zip code to zip code.. 25 + 37.5 = 62.5 miles .. that you didnt get paid for.. now just to keep it simple.. lets say 2 loads a week.. 48 weeks a year..that can come out to 6000 miles you didnt get paid for..
Now look at practical miles.. you get paid address to address.. not zip code to zip code.. which way would you want paid?
Just remember this is just a simple way to look at it.. lol.. numbers might be off.. and IMHO.. -
Thanks for the links and the explainations. I've understood the concept behind the Household Movers Guide in that it gives mileage from zip code to zip code. But what I'm looking for the actual source; a way that I can take the shipper and consignee addresses, enter them, and double check the miles I'm being given by my employer match that of the HMG. A free source would be preferrable, of course...
