I did that one time. May sound like a BS story, but I did say, "I'm going to the store, be back later." Got in the car and left and never returned. Left everything behind; tools, clothes, personal items, wife. Stopped at a store at the state line and bought a shirt; all I had was a T-shirt, jeans, shoes. She found me by phone one time on the opposite coast, but I hung up.
Did miss my tools for awhile, but just like a wife, can be replaced.
Felt like a ton of bricks lifted off my shoulders.

That is something I may not have mentioned although I implied it in the post. I don't have GF/Wife/Kids and not planning on having them . So I'm not super concerned with needing to come back to my hometown really often. I'll go back 3 or 4 times a year probably .

If anything I've really overstayed my welcome at home for about 7 years longer than I really should have. So they'll be happy to know I'm actually out and about making money instead of bumming around at home unemployed or underemployed (my usual situation age 21-28) .

Honestly if I did have wife / kids I dont think Id take this career path, I wouldn't want to be away from them for that long. Especially considering how terrible ive been at getting/maintaining any romantic relationship I'd be paranoid I'd lose everything away from them for so long.

I actually did the same thing in 2015. Sold my house/land outside of Houston to move to hill country N of SA, in Boerne with a gf because her parents have 80ac with a guest house besides their main house.

I lasted 31 days. Long story short, 3rd strike was her throwing a fit because I wouldn't buy her a brand new Ford Fiesta to drive back and forth to work so she didn't have to put miles on her 2013 F250 (Lariat, 4x4,diesel). That was a Fri night, she didn't talk to me till Sun afternoon when I asked her to hold a wrench on a bolt while I tighted from the underside on a '77 International Scout. She let the wrench fall of the nut and didn't say anything, just let me keep spinning the bolt. I told her "just give me the wrench if you're not going to help me". Next thing I know, the 1/2" wrench came flying down at my head, I spun my head to the right, it hit the dirt, bounced and caught me right above my left eye. I then smacked my head on the oil pan I think. I called her every name I could think of, including making up some new ones.

When I got out from under the truck, I couldn't find her. She had run inside and got in the shower. I asked her "wtf"? She screamed at me to get out of the bathroom and said she never hit me with a wrench, she never had a wrench in her hand. At that point it was beyond obvious that she was bat #### crazy. I left for a few hrs, got back that night and when she left at 5:30 the next morning I packed all my stuff in my truck, dropped it off at my storage unit and headed N to IL for 3 weeks where my mom and her husband are. I ignored her for almost the whole 3 weeks.

Attempted to work it out when I came back after renting another place. That lasted all of 2 dates and she showed me yet again what a crazy, selfish, immature girl she was. Never spoke to her again.
