I don't want to hi-jack a thread here but; if you were talking to me, don't worry. I actually intend to see if I can get a leave of absence while I attend their school/training and possibly through my first few weeks of driving. Being the very very slow time of season, I don't think that's unreasonable, and I have an exemplary work record with them. It would be nice to be able to go back if Roehl doesn't work out.

I believe they are a good company. I'm not disgruntled. I'm just interested in a different line of work. Again, if the OP has any questions about my experience with the company, please ask. I'll do my best to help you out.

for me, i was strictly the flatbed with the moffitt truck. i never had to drive the box trucks, as they had drivers for those. and you see, it's NOT easy making a full week of 40 hours as i said. my benefits as i said, were not blue cross, so mine stank. the management...?? forgedaboudit. you live in a nicer area i suppose than i do. the store discounts were good, when i had to buy big items.

yeah, those "emergency deliveries"....for me it was, decking, or wall board, or lumber, and you show up, no one there to drop off to....but yet, it "was an emergency".....when i would go back in a day or two for another delivery...??? all that stuff that was so important, was still there......

what always bothered me about the benefits and pay was when i read about the MILLIONS of dollars Lowe's and Home Depot spend each year on NASCAR racing (something like $60 million..??), but then biotch about over time.....or working you UNDER 40 hours.......and providing piss poor health bene's.....

glad to hear there is/was another Lowe's driver out there...

I've worked at Lowes as a delivery driver for 4.5 yrs. started in box truck doing appliances for 3 yrs then decided to get cdl and now driving flatbed. I don't know about other stores but none of our drivers ever get sent home early because there aren't enough deliveries to fill an 8 hr shift. There are always customers to call and appliances to be pulled for the next days deliveries. Benefits are as good as anywhere else. As for the guy who made it an entire month at Lowes and quit because the pay and benefits suck, NOBODY is going to give you anything. You HAVE to earn it and 1 month isn't enough to even learn the job much less prove your worth to anyone. I make just over 19.00 hr in our small Texas town store and am home every night. I live 8 miles from work and love the 6 minute commute. I have seen a lot of 30 day people come and go there and in my opinion, we're better off without them. Give Lowes a shot if you need work. Lots of career opportunities there.

Revived kind of an old thread, but it looks like for a good cause! Delivery work for an awful lot of people, is just too much "work."
Now I have a question for you here. When you were delivering appliances, just how far did you go. Did you drop them in the driveway or at curbside? Did you take them in the house? Did you actually set them up for the customer?

The reason I ask, is because I used to work for an LTL outfit that delivered a bunch of appliances for Home Depot. We had some pretty strict policies on delivery. NEVER go into the home. NEVER go up or down stairs. Drop the appliance at the crub, driveway, garage, or OUTSIDE the front door.

There was one jack wagon salesman that promised the customer that the delivery "people would put it where you want it, and set it up for you." Seriously! I heard this from way too many customers to believe they all got together and cooked up the same lie....
Don't know what happened to that salesman, but ----- --- and his horse too.

I turned down a job with one of those furniture rental and delivery places for that reason. Or some customers are on the 3rd or 4th floor of an apartment with no elevator.

Also, the furniture rental business included doing repos lol.

I started at lowes in 2010 as a cdl driver now 2017 the new hire cdl drivers start at a much higher rate and they start out more than what I make now not fair considering I have over six years of retail exsperance and you are suppose to get a pay increase yearly and nothing yet they screw over the drivers who are there for them everyday faithfully.....................
