MTC does what they say they'll do! The food is bad, the dorms suck! However, they make sure that you get your Class A CDL. My husband and I went there and it wasn't bad. My husband graduated and got his CDL a week before me and they kept on working with me! I thought it was horrible at first when he left, they put me on the midnight shift. I freaked out and thought everyone thought I was an idiot, I soon realized that it was valuble experience, I got to play in morning rush hour traffic, and there weren't as many people, so I got more drive time and backing practice. Make sure its not cracked, bent, broken, and it secured tightly!:biggrin_2559:

For the money that they charge thats the least they can do. The tuition is astronomical there. If u live in Missouri you're much better off
going to Crowder College or ASU at Newport. At these places u also earn college credit.

I agree that the tuition is expensive, but I didn't have any money when I signed up and it wasn't far from home. At the time we didn't know any better.

That's what I thought when I was wallowing through the 6 inches of ice that we got in February at MTC in Hazelwood, MO. Granted, the people that work at this place (administration) will frustrate you and use up your time, but I would say the instructors are top-notch. I was able to get my class A cdl in 3 weeks and go out with a trainer from my company for six weeks. It's about you. What do you want to sacrifice? I can say I earned my CDL because I had to put up with less than desirable living conditions-dorm rooms with leaky ceilings- and recruiters who lie. They lie? Of course they do. Gotta pack the warm bodies in. Anyway, that was 9 months ago. I say go here. It's spendy, but you know who you will work for pretty much right away. Hope this helps.

I went to MTC, cept i went to their school in paducah KY. They put you up in a hotel there and 2 meals a day from the greasy spoon next door. Yes the trucks are crap but they are just old models of the trucks out on the road n e how. The instructors were cool not the best. but it got the job done. Little on the expensive side yes. But as a smaller school they have high insurance prices as well give and take.

As for funding I'm sure all states have some kind of job training services were they will pay for you to be trained in careers that are in demand.

Here in Louisiana I got on one such program where if you've ever worked on a farm they pay for you to get your CDL. They paid the whole $5000 for school plus paid ME $6.50hr for every hr I was in school. Then on top of that gave me a $500 food voucher for groceries while I was in school. They only required that you maintain a job for at least 14 months but did not require that it was a driving job.

There are all kinds of grants like this you just have to go out and look. Yeah the schools may be expensive but you CAN get them PAID for.

My hourly pay while in school totaled two checks for $498 each. All together they spent over $6000 to get ME MY CDL.

I went to PTDS(MTC) in Paducah,Ky Alot of Drama when I got there some guys had been there 2 months and still waiting to test. The Food Sucked The RITZ sucked, The Trucks I worked with were and broke down as possible and still move. And the lies you get told before going quickly are obvious. some key facts I learned.

    1) You must report directly to company so count on being gone from home 2-3 months.

    2) Bring extra money they feed you but have not even got a water fountain.

    3) realize that the instructors are good but can only do so many ppl a day and they are overcrowded.

Yes it was starting to get overcrowded when i was leaving i was in the second class to grad there since they were bought and reopened by mtc. If course you will have to bring money who would go there without brining money. I brought 1700 clams with me when i drove down there. Albeit i had to spenn 500 to have brakes fixed on my car as i had a complete failure on them. And yes they tell you that you have to report to your company after graduation. Which isnt totally true. They would prefer stongly that you do but i told them i wasnt going to leave my car n e where but home so i drove my car home then stayed for 2 weeks the reported. Then again school was easier for me cuz i already had a cdl but no otr exp. I was driving log trucks in michigan since i was 18 so they made me go to a driving school.

A few months ago I stayed at a truck stop in Paducah, KY that also had a truck driving school there that shut down. Yes its now MTC that bought it, and reopened it. At the time I was there as a truck driver, a ton of students were sitting outside where they have the class room, and a brawl started. I had been walking by to go to the restaurant that was there (don't know if they reopened that or not since then), and upon entering the restaurant, sat down to eat. I was told that the brawls were the norm there, and that living conditions were despicable for the students too. I went to MTC in Hazelwood, MO in March of 2006, and I DO NOT RECOMMEND GOING TO IT EVER. The cost is double of not almost triple of other places, the living conditions are beyond intolerable, & the food they provide twice a day 6 days a week, I wouldn't even feed it to my dog or my worst enemy. Sundays you had to provide your own food with only one convenient store there and NOTHING ELSE AROUND. You are treated like trash, and you do more walking than anything else. I became very sick the last few days there and almost passed out. I asked to go lay down and Joan in the office told me if I did, she would take away me going to take my CDL test that was scheduled in 3 days. I stayed out there walking another 2 hours being helped to stay on my feet by two other students. Once she & the office personell left, the instructor told me to go lay down. I was still very sick 3 days later but did pass my CDL. Also if you are sick? You and you alone must provide your transportation to the hospital which I couldn't do as I had no car & no one else did neithor, and also had no money to pay the $20 something to a taxi one way. (I had called and asked the price). Upon getting home from MTC I immediately went to the doc as by then I was beyond sick, miserable, and never felt like this. It was worse than flu feelings. I had diabetes. The food at MTC or lack of it, plus the quality of it had made what I didn't know I had become totally uncontrollable. Believe me--I was furious. MTC also "contracts" you with the worst companies. The bottom of the barrel companies.

Another word of warning. You supposedly have your school paid off within 14 months if you survive working where they place you? Each and EVERY ONE of the people (7 of them) that I have kept in contact with still owe. Two stayed where they were placed for the 14 months, got the school paid off--then were billed for the interest to come out of their own pockets. So no!!!! It is NOT paid off after those 14 months. They have so many loopholes you owe alot more than you signed up for and owe it long after the 14 months. Me? I wasn't going to work for swift and quit a week and a half later. At least I had the smarts for that beginning of my driving career even tho I didn't for going to MTC. If I knew how to do the URL thing I would put some pretty shocking photos on here of the rooms that leaked and had black mold in them, the hotel they put us up in, and the yard conditions. Please everyone--DO NOT BE SO DESPERATE TO DRIVE THAT YOU GO TO MTC!! I'm going into the end of my 2nd year of driving and still regret that day almost 2 years ago!! Check out the BBB in MO for MTC. Check out ripoffreport.com on them. Check this sight too!!
