This job is just like any other - it is what you make of it. Your going to have bad days and good days. I do this because I choose to do it - I have done other jobs in this industry and quite frankly they are no fun at all. You'll get to see some amazing scenery, meet "interesting" people (the whole spectrum), and be about as free as you can be while earning a living. What else could you ask for?
Stop over thinking it! This lifestyle is fun and exciting, waking up in a new place every night like some 2bit piece of meat (nice terms) lol. Nah in all reality this lifestyle is crazy difficult at times, but I'll tell you what. When I am home, all I think about is going back out. I enjoy this.. And it's funny because I've never held a job where I loved it so much. Yes, it's stressful, yes your free labor at times, but all in all.. the very end of the day you know you put in a honest hard working day.. That is the best feeling. That plus every time I get my direct deposit message on the qualcomm. (haha).
don't give up, once your on your on own it will be easier on you. i was out with my trainer for 2 months and believe me it was no walk in the park, but i am glad i did stick with it. i enjoy be out here on my own now even though i would love to see my wife and dog daily i would not leave the road. after spending 10 years land surveying this by far is better. except the pay so far,but this is a much better career. keep on trucking and hope to see you on the road
well i got back in trucking for 2 reasons, do a good job, and take what they give you, a short load might have big load waiting for you, and you wont get laid off and wont be standing in line for unemployment line, ,, your always going someplace different and i really really love not having somebody over my shoulder telling what to do. pick the load up and keep on rolling , hell i can go on n on, no clock to punch, oh ya i love trucking
I remember when I was a kid truckers were thought of as the white knights of the hiway they could always be depended on to help each other and anyone in trouble on the road. That is one reason I got into trucking and I like being on the road with out somebody looking over my shoulder. All that has changed now with satellite, qualcomm we being watched, we are no longer revered but mostly despised by the public. It's had it's good and bad but after 32 years I couldn't imagine doing anything else. I love driving and I always will. It is what you make of it, Determan to be the best but never think your the best, always be willing to learn even after many many years of driving. Be patient with your self as you learn and with those you will teach in the future.
I do it for one reason and one reason only. I LOVE it! Ok so I guess there are two reasons. The other being that I don't have someone breathing down my neck all day telling me what to do and how to do it....just someone telling me when it needs to be done by.
