Wednesday I was terminated for drinking under dispatch, I was not in or anywhere around my truck while intoxicated. I know what I did was wrong and a stupid choice and the company had to do what they had to do... just wondering if anyone can tell me how this is going to affect me in finding any new work as im sure its on my d.a.c.
how bad is my situation?

Are you a frequent drinker?
How did they know?
Were you driving your car?
I think you should give a more detailed account off what happend and how if you want people to help.
And don't worry.............you will get flamed by some.FloTheWaitress, Moon_beam, Chinatown and 1 other person Thank this. -
I agree rob, if you want any help here, you need to be a whole lot more forthcoming. You'll probably get flamed no matter what you say, so don't let that bother you. If you seriously want opinions, (and keep in mind that is really all we can give,) you need to open up to us.

if you were off duty,i don't get it.no where near the truck? i don't get it.DOT says no alcohol w/in,what,8hrs? you were off duty for at 10 i'll assume.
we need more details.quit the woe is me junk.you can get another job more than likely.how do you know they just didn't want to get rid of you and found a reason while you were on probation or similiar? ask them to work w/you and just make it a mutual separation. shake it off and get to work clearing it up.the bit about no where near the truck is perplexing.was it a hazmat load? -
It's a simple fact. If other companies find out you have no chance. Your only recourse is rehab and working with the return to duty professionals. Then it's a hard road for rehire. That beer or drink is going to cost you and I'm sure you'd do it different now. Is there anyway to get out of the under dispatch? That would be the best but if not, you've got a long road and another career might prove to workout better. Good luck.

Drinking under dispatch ? Does this mean you were working or just on call ?
How did they find out you were drinking ? Or intoxicated as you say. We're there any police or arrest ?
Just asking, not prying for info if you care to share . -
A lot of companies say you cannot drink any alcohol unless you are on home time. No beer at the truckstop while on your 10 or 34. Plain and simple.
If they subscribe to DAC, they will place a note that you were terminated for violating company policy. Nowhere will it say drinking on duty.
Violating company policy is up there with the major faults, rollover, rearender, failing drug test, and reckless driving.
Your best bet is to try to get on with a smaller outfit that doesn't go with DAC and tell them you got fired for violating company policy. -
I know with Swift they require a minimum of 12 hours between drinking and driving, and have a zero tolerance policy for any alcohol in a terminal or having had a drink out of the terminal and returning to the terminal while still under the influence. This came into play last year when I had to repower a load at a terminal because the driver walked out of the terminal to a bar and came back to the terminal. Someone smelled the alcohol and he was fired and asked to immediately clean out his truck and vacate the premises. I heard the story when I came in to hook to the trailer, apparently it had happened the night before and folks were talking about it.

I was waiting to pick up a tcall for another driver in pualsboro nj it snowed pretty bad so he got held up till the next day, no police and im not sure how they found out another driver form my company is my guess that and when they started asking questions about why I was gone for so long and the bar I just admitted to it.
