NYC is horrible! One reason the locals are so rude is even they hate the place and their miserable lives. Everyone there is stressed out 24/7, constantly screaming profanities and giving the finger to every one and every thing. They're afraid to move out of the city because they can't cope with normal people and would be like a wild boar in a china shop. Even the truck drivers that live in the city constantly scream and slam on their brakes and change lanes without signals and usually have one arm sticking out the window giving everyone the finger while loudly bleating and screaming unintelligible sounds. Some of the nicest people I've met in my travels are former NYC residents that finally moved to other states and finally unwound from the incessant noise and stress of living in that city. They finally stopped and slowed down to smell the roses and regret having wasted so many years living in that stressful place.

I've been to the city with a 53' trailer and as far as I understand so long as you stay off the parkways you are legal. I also saw plenty of other sleeper cab trucks with 53' trailers.

That being said I don't go there often (hopefully never again) so I couldn't tell you for sure if you can but I'm sure someone else can. I wouldn't cite this forum as a source for legal matters if I were you. Just because you heard it was legal or illegal from a thread is no different than being told so by a complete stranger on the street.

I don't mind Long Island, most our customers have overnight parking and bars full of good, friendly people are nearby.
yes, the people on the Island are great.

Yeah, that's why I asked if he was running legal with the 53'. He said he'd been there numerous times, so I figured he should know. The devil might be in the details on the issue of if 53' trailers are really legal in the 5 boroughs.

Technically speaking you are over length with a sleeper and 53' trailer. You really mess up and you could get a ticket, otherwise nothing to worry about. I run the 5 Burroughs and L.I. twice a week and a day in Boston. Get a truck map for NYC, try to NOT follow GPS, but use it as a reminder. Just use common sense and you'll be okay. Again trucks run all the time with a sleeper cab and 53' trailer, it is illegal according to the NYC truck map because you are over length, but like I said you really need to mess up for that to be enforced.
Best advice for the GWB, stay far right, all the trucks go left and it leaves me wide open on the right. Then after the tolls best bet is to stay in the middle lane.
Also if you Google the port authority, I think you can lookup useful information.

53' and a day cab and you'll be legal. 53' AREN'T illegal, just NYC claims they want a certain length cmv, for those that pay any attention. Like I said, they have that length rule for if you mess up. Idk say take out 8 cop cars making a 180° turn.... you get the picture ;)

I've never been on a forced dispatch to NYC, always on a volunteer basis. The company I work for now "doesn't go to NYC", except when we do. My DM always calls and asks me if I will take a load there, and he always makes it worth my while with extra $.

I dont know if 53' are technically illegal or not in the city, but I know they are everywhere there. If they are, that law is definetly not enforced. If the business owners in NYC want their goods shipped in and out, it's more likely than not going to be on a 53' as 99% of the trailers on the road nowadays are 53'.

    Get a garbage can.

Every time you have to take a dump, pee or vomit do it in the trashcan until it is full.

    Put plastic over the top.

Put trashcan Inn the sun for two weeks.

    Stick head in trashcan.

    Welcome to NY.

Pittsburgh/Metro is very unfriendly to trucks, However Downtown isn't as bad, The suburbs of the city sucks donkey balls and metro. I don't envy twin screw sleepers and 53' trailers trying to negotiate the outdated infrastructure.
