I posted my comments, read them.

I said the place is at fault for it, not you.

There is what's right, and then there is what safety says. Don't shoot me over this comment. Sometimes when you strike a stationary object, regardless of what it is, you are going to be tagged for a preventable. YOU, the driver, are 100% responsible for making sure you have proper clearance. You are never to assume that clearance. I once had a situation in Ohio where I looked up at my dock and saw it was clear. Then just as I was about to do the pivot, I saw a guy driving a forklift enter my path. This is why, as a driver, when you are backing up before starting the backup, know what is going on around you.

I would be willing to bet that at least 90%+ of safety departments will tag you with a preventable simply because you struck a stationary object. It sucks, I know. It's more than GOAL, it's also looking at things that could impact your vehicle. Another thing that can cause trouble is overhead clearances.

Of course, I hope I am wrong and your safety department does not tag you with a preventable.

There’s a sausage factory in Elk Grove Village with a similar situation going on that’s probably claimed a couple hundred doors.

Downside is being at a mega, they might be more inclined to call it an accident.

Honest mistake with bad luck on the outcome. Could even make an argument for shipper neglect, being that that’s a ridiculous dock setup.

Look at the corners and doors on 98% of trailers that are more than a year old. Only difference in your misjudgment and the magical damage fairy that keeps hitting something with every trailer is your luck made the outcome more severe. I’m not defending those that are constantly backing trailers into other objects, but don’t beat yourself up over it and I don’t think it’ll even be a hiccup with future job ventures
