I had a guy try to tell me I had hit his hood mirror in a tight parking lot. Just one problem though. My husband was on the guys side guiding me in, the driver that was on my blind side was guiding me on his side and another driver in front.

He knocked on my door 20 minutes after I parked. We go and take a look. I grabbed my phone and started taking pictures. The truck was old and the mirror itself didn't have any damage. The area where the mirror was attached to the hood had cracks around the bracket. I focused my camera on that area. His truck was dirty & the cracks where filthy too. If they would have been fresh, the dirt would have been disturbed. When I questioned it he told me he was going to call the cops for me taking pics of his truck. Told him please do, because I know I didn't hit him.

Now the driver who helped me back in got out of his truck. He told the guy I didn't hit him. Next two drivers parked across & a couple of trucks down from us got out & joined the discussion. One guy offered his dash cam.

What did the dash cam show? I didn't hit him, but two hours earlier he tried the same thing with another driver. The other driver didn't question it and paid him cash to make it go away.

I sent my company the dash cam video & my pictures. Safety called me a couple of days later & said they cleared me. They said unfortunately they get these mirror hit scams a lot.

For anyone that actually does hit someone- IF you want to handle it as a cash transaction and no reporting, then be sure to write out, even on a napkin or back of a receipt- I RELEASE FROM FURTHER CLAIMS, write your name and company's name, "FOR A CASH SETTLEMENT OF", write the amount, and have the other party sign and date it. THEN, hand over the cash. Better yet, print out some of those free forms and keep them with you, just in case.

If, after talking to family and friends, they want it to rain money by suing a big, bad trucking company and/or its driver, then that will stop the lawsuit in its tracks.

If he claims you hit him let him prove it. Good job taking pictures. Iv had a guy claim i hit him while parking at loves. I never, ever came even close to him. I took pictures and said fine call cops and prove it. 30 minutes lyer he came to apologize and say its not a big deal.
