Hey guys, my son is in driver training at Windy Hill and he loves it. He started driving with no experience (just got his CDL) and has not stopped for more than a day since before Christmas. He's heading back to Wisconsin tonight and will be heading back out to South Carolina. My favorite part is that they don't have to drive in really bad weather. They just call in and the company changes delivery appointment. I like a safety concious company (cuts down on the worry). Apparently they also give a bonus when a driver stays on the route the company chooses. I'm thinking that .27 cpm isn't a bad trade off for safety and constant work. Good luck to you all!!

all I can say it is sad that the starting pay in trucking is the same as it was 15 years ago, and people don't think that is all that bad.

Heh bgirl, glad to hear your son is doing good at Windy Hill. As I said in a previous post, I don't have anything against Windy Hill, and it is a great opportunity for someone like your son that is just starting in the industry.
He will get the experience he needs with a good company and this will open more doors for him in the future.
If he is happy with .27cpm, I'm happy for him. I just couldn't see my way clear to drive for .27cpm with my experience, even though my experience doesn't matter to the trucking companies, it matters to me.
Good luck to him in the future. Keep us posted on how things are going.

Ya gearjammer, I agree. But it really sucks when that is what they want to pay experienced drivers. I thought it was "all that bad", so...............!
Oh wait, My experience has expired because I took over five years off.
    My bad!!

Well that makes one that says it sucks, and two that say it is good so far.
    Better than most companies get!
Heh Dartman, could you elaborate a little more? Are you still working for them? If not, how long were you there?
Just curious as to why you say "stay away".

no & never would again ..... they screwed me out of more than 1200$ lucky i pick up a local job that i made so serious money at .what i made was peanuts .27 cents per mile . they told me 30 when i started , i brought it up to them there action was we start no one at that !!!!! . they say they want legal log books an want you to run 20 hrs a day . lumpers come out of your pocket till they get the paper work ...if something is wrong with it you have allready payed for it . payroll deduct ..... they hire mostly new drivers that dont no anything cause they can screw them over easier. i only took there b.s. for 6 months . they go through people like grant went through richmound . i thought when i hire on that it would be nice to work for a small co an one than was florida based . it not florida based it's wis based an that is where you we be . they have a termanal here thats it . 90%of there drivers are from florida .most of there runs are around 600 miles then you wait till you want to go to sleep then they have a load that has to be there by the next day. do your self a favor an look at a better co

STAY AWAY!!!! I did 6 months with those crooks in 1995 , unless they really changed , although I seriously doubt it. Jack S is such a low life he even renounced his citizenship! The escrow account is ILLEGIAL , and I knew of guys that had to pay for repairs as silly as holes drilled into the doghouse (cabover days) , made them pay for a whole new doghouse!!! Safety? did you wait 7 hours to get loaded after already working all day? Don't be taking a nap! The quailcomm will be used to wake you up.
