It isn't math, it's simple arithmetic. Addition and subtraction. However, many get confused when decimals are used, and if fractions were added in....now that could really get confusing!

How would one manage if you had to solve a problem that has 8/16, and 16/32, along with 2/4, and 4/8? Such a tangled web we weave for sure!:biggrin_255:

Ok--o furry wise one? So since when is arithmetic not math?
AND IMHO--simple arithmetic to many off the card carrying members of the CVSA club--is tantamount to ROCKET SCIENCE---therefore I have always advised ANYONE who does not understand split sleeper--inside and out to shy away from it--since Dollars to Doughnuts--you are inevitably going to end up having to explain it(probably more than once)to somebody thumbing back and forth between log pages--w/that lost look in their eyes:biggrin_25525:

Yes, arithmetic is a basic part of mathematics, however, in common terminology "mathematics" is generally used to address the "higher" branches; geometry, calculus, and algebra. "Arithmetic" is the 4 simple processes of adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing. Most times using smaller numbers for the arithmetic solution.

If you have a hard time getting the numbers right and your on paper download keeptrucking app and plug in your log it will do it for you. I used it to double check myself when my elog was down. I do the split as taking 2hrs instead of 30min allows me to only shut down 8 at the end of the day and roll on since I can only sleep 5 it works better sitting for another 5 get bored and tired

If you are making a long run, it can be pretty helpful. Sometimes when I'm doing a load that takes 2 or 3 days and I have the possibility of collecting some layover before delivery, I'll run 8/2 instead of taking a 30 minute break. Drive 5.5ish hrs, take a 2, drive the rest, take 8. Rinse and repeat. That way I can get close to my destination and begin my layover a couple hours earlier than if I were taking 10 hours + the 30 minute break every.
