I believe we were Just using the term "windchill" for a human standpoint not the engine itself, I havent heard of the gas rag but when I was in the service, we used an Ether Starting system on the diesel equipment.

Funny how you guys talking about starting truck in the cold weather. I drive a 2010 cascadia day cab with a Mercedes engine. Has about 360k miles on it. It was 5F couple days ago. Guess what? It didn't start :)

I had -27 Monday morning. My 07 379 C15 started fine but my fuel restriction gauge was pegged. If I tried to bump the idle over 800 it would die. I let it idle just under that for about an hour then it ran fine. That was with a 40% #1 blend that I blended myself.

Yeah Monday was hell. Tuesday wasn't much better. All of the intermodal equipment lifts kept breaking down.

I counted 36 big trucks between Mpls and Des Moines broke down or limping.

I stopped at Holiday in Forest Lake to top my tanks off and all of the #2 diesel pumps were dead.

You dont always have the luxury of brand new batteries in a company truck. Also when you have old batteries and you
crank it down the webasto wont turn back on because it faults out due to under-voltage.

Oh I bet. I got mine running around 1pm. Ain't no way I was going to try to pull loads around that day. Tuesday was a pain my suspension dump valve kept sticking and letting air out. I ain't working next winter.

    MJ1657 Thanks this.
