If you ever roofed a building with slimy wet shingles you'd know. I shingled a building a while back. You could easily tell what packages had been kept dry and which ones had been wet. Now, a professional roofer may not give a hoot, but I got filthy using the wet ones.

If they're paper wrapped like GAF did theirs once upon a time, then they should be tarped.
I never tarped those when they were wrapped in plastic though, such as with Owens-Corning. -
Back in the day I tarped a bunch of them. GAF, TAMCO used to wrap them in that brown paper. They didn't want the paper to blow off before they got to the customer.
I think Owens Corning was one of the first to start wrapping them in plastic.MACK E-6 Thanks this. -
We hauled IKO brand. For the most part, the bundles stayed together. Occasionally you would have one start to break apart. That bundle got placed under another one, Menards didn't know, or they didn't care.
And the only tarped shingle loads were when we used one of the owners 2 curtain walls.whoopNride Thanks this. -
@TripleSix also while I don't pull skate (my dad does tho) I enjoy reading your posts. I'm in the younger generation 24 years old and some of the stuff I see going down the road truly amazes me whether its lack of caring or stuck in their ways. The few times I have pulled flats moving misc frac equipment the only thing on my mind was making sure everything stayed on the deck if someone pulled a Darwin

@Zeviander I found out the average driver's ability to learn is a bit concerning even something as simple as bulk cement. Pretty simple concept but when they were taught they weren't taught WHY you do this or that, just do it. The handful of new guys I taught to unload I made sure they knew why they were doing something. For instance with cement you want no top air because unlike sand it will just pack down the cement and cancel out the aerators. Or more line pressure equals less product coming out, only open the line pressure enough so you don't plug up let the a aerators do their job. You can't teach stupid tho.
The #### power divider don't even get me started. In the oilfield you'd think the drivers would know how not to blow them out? Nope every other truck you go to use it and thump thump thump. Good thing we had heavy duty drive lines bigger drive shafts and wicked low gearing and not big power otherwise everyday driveshafts would be on the ground
I could only imagine the chaos that would happen if we had 18s. Maybe its because I grew up around heavy equipment or I didn't constantly have mommy or daddy over my shoulders but my generation f'n scares the #### outta meLast edited: Nov 28, 2017
