I was a Heavy Diesel Mechanic in the Marine Corps for 4yrs and ended up getting my Journeymans in Diesel Repair. Tried college wasn't for me, got layed off my day job and I always liked driving so I figured why not drive a truck.

I'm Divorced, no kids, no house / apartment, little to no existing debt (paid off almost all while out processing for the Marines) still #### credit score tho. My monthly bills are simply Storage unit & phone bill. All other expenses are truck related. Oh and I hate spending money unless it's something I can get a good deal on and it's tax deductible.

Sounds like an excuse. It wasn't exactly easy but how bad do you want it? Just gave you a clear plan. There is no fast, easy way.

Lol gotta love single people with no kids. Parents and such have responsibilities there is no room for "wants" in most of our lives. There are have tos, cants, no times, no choices. Dreams are only achieved by a few things, life situations and hard work like you are saying, luck, a hand up or hand out like most of the owner operators from my area. Majority of the guys I know they had a connection i.e. Daddy was a rich farmer, grandpa died, their inlaw had money or a trucking company. I'm not saying that it can't be achieved through hard work and saving, but that when you already work hard there is no room for extra legally, and also that everyone in life usually gets some sort of help or break. Now as far as my situation I have a business plan with cost per mile estimated on high high side, revenue waiting to be captured in a safe market, years of experience in trucking and also business. All I need is loan for truck n trailer and I'm golden. So the question is besides sum luck, a connection, and or being young with no responsibilities and debt or really anything to risk how does a guy do it? Or maybe he just doesn't and let's the next guy that knows what's there take it? What bugs me is if a single parent who isn't even working wants to go get a career there are grants and funding to go to college, or if I wanted to open a restaurant or whatever business other then trucking there are grants loans all over the place. I do however get it tho because there has been so many joe blow drivers over the years that have went under and banks got stuck with the check. And that's across the board not just trucking. People thought oh as long as I can make the minimum payment on a house or car or boat that was way out of their means it would be fine. And I'm the trucking industry it's worse. There as been Way to many mediocre mindless dock bumpers that have went under in only the first year in biz. They had no clue about business, finance, logistics, maintenance or really anything about owing a truck. They went out bought a long nose pos that looked nice but had a million miles on it then spent their cash flow on more chrome and toys and then boom tranny goes out.
