I don't know his exact departure location but I'm still showing 200 miles roughly. one way.

Ya something doesn't add up. I didn't think it was quite that far.i just looked on Google maps from Suffolk county Long Island to Pittston Pa and it shows 235 miles.

65 mph straight thru puts you at 3 hours. I know thats not possible.

He said he starts at 0330 and is back to his yard around 1300. Which is totally possible on a 450 mile day. But he'd still need a comic book or eld, because of the mileage

I don't think their will be a ban on older trucks. But I do think that some sort of gismo will be required in the not to distant future that puts them older trucks running something like an ELD. I am already watching the older trucks where I am leased on turning in the yard while the ELD trucks have to sit their 10.
I know of a few shippers that request older non ELD trucks to load.
What really sucks is someone will go buy an older truck only to find they can not lease it on anywhere.

What I am getting at is that Exemption is going to go away at some point.

Doubt that. What will happen is like every other regulation that is date based (abs for example) they will just let the older equipment die off naturally.
