3sixty and ITS are where I look for, and, usually find loads... my other "source" is brokers who call me when they have something juicy.

What is your business strategy - did you guys perhaps go to shippers, ask what they are paying, then try and undercut that? What margin are you looking to keep? Based on your posted load of Lake City, FL to Miami, FL at that rate and the responses given on this forum what was your expected outcome? Is your shipper willing to pay $1150 or more to the truck and $1300 total to you guys or does that just put you back in the category of what there last broker was doing?

At one point when I really analyzed the spreadsheet that I keep I just cut FL out of the business plan. Many carriers have also done this. Since then ( over two years ) we have been twice both for direct customers ( one was N. Florida ) and the other time was able to get a load of melons out headed to OH. Still wasnt thrilled about the load / rate out but took it b/c had another load waiting in MI. Texas was another state that I really never had luck with but I know a few that have.

TQL - one of the 800lb gorillas in the business.

Point was that the rates low as is, plus rolling 8 ft lumber tarps suks - true, FL is nice and humid this type of year!!

It's clear why you can't get trucks. You believe your own "broker speak" that "$2 a mile is a great rate". $2 a mile is cheap regardless of length of haul. $2 is an average drivers look for as a minimum, after deadhead... ...it's not a "great rate". My loaded miles only rate is almost $3.50 a mile average, after deadhead, parentage off the top it drops to $2.30 so there is your answer. Your rates suck. Thread like this gives a driver hope about fellow owners. Glad you can't get trucks.

ok well maybe the shippers I use just suck I understand that I the quality not the quantity--ex it doesn't matter if I cut my percentage down if the rate is to low from the beginning.
