How do you all handle detention time? I have a couple brokers I deal with regularly that no questions asked, at 2 hours detention time kicks in. Most of them want to beat around the bush. Sitting right now at a receiver for just short of 2 hours. Have been ready to unload for over an hour. No trucks ahead of me. Repair man working on overhead door and they say they cant use the crane. Will take 15 minutes to unload. I try not to get inpatient, but sitting for free is not very well received.
My cure for the feet dragging at these shippers and receivers, $50/hour starts as soon as the truck is ready to load/unload (tarps/straps off, etc). Goes until truck is empty. 1 hour free. That way drivers can't drag their feet untarping, and these warehouses may hustle a little more. End of rant for the day.![]()

So... there was no wait time clause in the contract with the broker?
and you signed it?? Now you want to be mad??? Hummmm......
If you expect wait time, be sure its in the contract.

If you want $50 an hour after one hour then that’s what you need to negotiate with whoever you’re negotiating with.
