To solve your problem, slow down during those hours, and/or buy a GPS and set a lower speed alarm on that to alert you beforehand.

Good opportunity to use your "vacation" to look around and weigh your options.

Well, when you’re specing out a new truck and the salesman is telling you about all this stuff I decided to research. All I have to go on is manufacturer specs as well as videos that salesman have posted. From what I’ve read and watched they state 2-3 seconds following distance. Either way it’s not something that I need nor want. All it does is cause people such as the OP to not pay attention.

i agree with this portion. i’ve driven trucks with different systems spanning several years now. they all act differently.

hopefully you watch videos on how to repel stinkbugs, too. every spring and fall they camp the back wall of the house looking for a way in.

Then you should not be in the road.

If I am within 7 seconds of another vehicle, cruise is off and I am on the foot pedal. I may wait until 2.5 to 3 before moving over, but I do not let cms control my speed. As for adaptive cruise - you have to pay attention, but when I hear the engine drop I glance at my gauges, if I am below my set speed - onto the fuel I go.

    I'm governed at 63.

I love coming up on a line of three or 4 trucks, all 3.5 seconds apart doing 60.

As soon as I see that there is open space in front of the firsr truck, and there is a nice gap in traffic I pass. As soon as the following trucks realize they are being passed by a pumpkin, they wake up and blow my doors off. 20-30 miles down the rpad I catch them again because they did not realize their cms has cut their speed.
