Nursing is actually a degree that is useful but even an associates will take almost 3 1/2 years to obtain. The only reason I'm considering getting into trucking is to pay for my nursing school.

Then I'm sorry to have to tell you that you are getting into this for the wrong reasons. Driving is a career (long-term). What you need is a job. If you want to finance your education, I suggest you find a "normal" 8-5 job.

Hate to break it to you brother, but trucking is a job. As an objective outsider I will tell you that if anything has kept the status quo and set back truckers getting paid more it is the "lifestyle truckers" that accept the gospel about trucking being a lifestyle and not a job. I'm business first, last, and during.

Is it a demanding job? Yes
Will it put a damper on my free time? Yes
I'm fine with both of the above as long as I'm paid for it. I can give up my apartment and forego any serious relationships for 3 or 4 years while I bank the money to pay for the rest of my education.

I don't see it as any different than someone who wants to become an o/o they truck and save the money to accomplish that objective. I'm considering doing the same thing only my objective is paying for school.

For some being a trucker is who you are and I see nothing wrong with that whatsoever, but for me if I decide to drive a rig it will be what I do and a means to an end. Don't get the wrong idea I'm not looking to screw around if I do truck I will do it 110%.

take out a loan, getting into trucking to earn money to pay for education is counterproductive.

Taking out a loan is an option.

There is a lot to consider. That is why I haven't decided yet.

It comes down to would I rather be tied to paying back loans for 10 years or tied to a truck for 2-3 years. Students loans are a pyramid scheme in my eyes, but I'm not going to rant about it because I would take one out if it came down to it.

Also in my eyes having a CDL and the knowledge to drive a CMV is extremely useful for a variety of reasons.

Life to me is chess not checkers I look at the whole board and consider the consequences/obstacles before I make a move.
