Don't mean to offend but in my opinion that is a hard line minimum amount of time at home to be considered quality. In fact I'd say early Friday morning to Monday morning to be less than adequate. For anyone with a family that is. For a single guy, well hell, home is where the truck is.

In my opinion, anything less than 12 days at home and I feel like my kids are missing out. I stay out 10 to 14 days max, then back home for a minimum of 5 days, which almost always turns into a full week. Then add in a few periods of the year where I take two to three full weeks off. I load tomorrow for the first time since I came home on the 20th of December.

Edit to clarify. I was trying to say 12days a month.

Its hard to find companies that allow more hometime. Your right, you gotta be home more, but the industry doesnt always agree.

You must be an owner operator finding your own loads?

Yes I'm an o/o. I usually pick my own loads but I also have a coordinator watching our load board with me.
In my very first post in this thread I stated you will never get qualify home time unless you own a truck. To further clarify I actually mean own. Not some lease purchase scam from a mega carrier.
Only way to balance income and family in this business is to own your equipment. Or perhaps be a union driver. But union and me don't really get along so that was never an option for me.

It's actually not that hard if you have a decent driving record. Mercer and landstar both will allow you as much time at home as you want. From the time my kids got out of school last June to when they went back in August I was away from home a grand total of two separate nights spent in the sleeper. Made it back before dinner every other day I worked, which wasnt very many. Maybe a dozen short hops over the summer. Driving someone else's truck that won't ever happen. Ya gotta buy your own.

I usually get home Friday evening and leave Monday morning. I usually get to spend Monday night at the house too on my way back to Dallas.

It really depends on your location and who you work for..

BTW...Been married for 15 years with 2 kids. Unlike what some people will say, you CAN be a trucker and be a family man at the same time.
