First, get a decade of experience under your belt.
Second, keep a super shiny truck!
Third, call Mamoet. Pronounced Mamoot.

I drove these for a year for my brother. I use to drive from a ship yard in Tampa to a ship yard in Long Beach. It was interesting work, paid, and your able to sleep a regular schedule as you where only allowed to drive during day light. this was also back in 2000 when it was a pain in the butt to get permits. The permits where only good for 72 hours and you had to the original copies in hand. Every weight station would stop you and check the permits for the load, the permits for the trucks amber lights, and all the permits and licenses of your escorts most of which were only certified in one state. In some states you would have to have State Police escorts. I would deadhead back empty but because of the length and weight of the trailer I would have the same process on the return trip. My brother sold his contract to KEEN Transport which I think is the largest company that does this stuff besides Landstar

You mean I can't come right out of school and get a job doing this right away?!! Yes, that would be sarcasm. Haha.
I'm sure the pay is pretty good for a load like that. I wonder if the guy driving the back needs a CDL too? -
Of course. He's in a class 8 truck on the hi-way. The main tractor can't pull that kind of load so the use Pushers and Pullers.
-
I was talking about the guy that was steering the back wheels of the trailer. Not the pusher truck. I'm sure anybody that has anything to do with steering that load probably needs a CDL.

As far as the DOT goes, they actually help you. Local cops usually aren't that great ( they usually just show up and are in a hurry to go and get you out of the city), but the HP is awesome!
Like I said, there's no room for egos. It's a team effort. If there's going to be a major problem, it's going to be because of an out of control ego. No matter what experience any one person has on the team, no one person can safely move a superload. So why the ego? At the end of the day, it's "We made it. Way to go, team. High five!"vikingswen Thanks this.
