How do you handle sick days?

And a good thing to keep with you in the truck is this… Keep me some cold and flu medicines with you. Keep you some allergy medicines with you over the counter versions and what not… It will come in very handy to have those on board better to have them and not need them. Then need them and not have them.

 

Yours is a bit different.

 

About a month ago a co worker of mine started running a fever on the road and he pushed on for another 3 days until he arrived home near omaha and his wife hauled him straight to the doctor who immediately had him in an ambulance headed to the hospital.
Upon arrival and delirious he reportedly admitted killing jfk and bombing the wtc after being asked if he wanted to be resuscitated .
He had a septic shock infection and was very close to death , he was in the hospital 3 weeks and had to have his testicles removed .
Even after they got him stabil after surgery he only had a 50/50 chance of living .
He is home now recovering but he's at least a few months before being able to return to work .
Sometimes pushing on isn't a good idea .

I always push thru it like everyone else. I took over the counter medicine. One time I called dispatch and said I was not feeling good. They said if your sick enough to go to hospital. Then go, if not keep driving. I know now that's kinda illegal, but that was there way of doing stuff at that time. I think today most driver keep going but someone could go to walk-in clinic. Not sure how someone would get prescription fill on the road if needed. Probably Walmart I think they can still lookup any store prescription if you use them already.

 

Had a friend get sick i feb of 16 , passed him going home while going to work , he had pnemonia and died about 4 hrs later that night. If your sick , ##### take care of it ! Ain't no ##### load that important.

 

Luckily I never got sick out on the road. But I kept asprin, ibuprofen, and allergy meds on hand just in case.
When I was OTR, my co-driver caught pneumonia on our way to Portland. Got to a truck stop, he called a taxi to the closest ER. Got some meds and we trucked onward.
