My .02 cents... Never married, no kids and debt free. I sold everything and my only bill is my cell phone. I save 1K every week, to me it’s worth the bs. I also only allow myself 100.00 dollars a week for food and such. Most local guys can’t save 1K a month not to mention their working 60/70 hrs. To me, the motivation is the money. The cushion, the savings, my bank account. I wish I did this sooner. Yes, it’s lonely out here but you’ll eventually meet some good people. Drive safe everyone!Lepton1, Hurst, bentstrider83 and 2 others Thank this.

Married, with 2 kids, and debt free but for property taxes on a yearly; house and land paid for... running tanks intrastate. It's do able here, too~!
I 'DID' put my time in OTR back when, though.

In my time everything was paid for house most especially. Utitlites worked out to 40 a month, cell bill was 80 a month and that's it really. Other than gasoline for two cars which isnt needed being OTR. And insurance which was maybe 55 a month for both of us on everything.
You CAN make a bunch of money trucking... -
Columbia still has a lot of miles left. Makes no sense to sell or trade in when its still a money making truck, vs the value of selling or the insults they offer on trade. Make a good starter truck for someone with enough self discipline to keep their foot out of it.
I have had a driver in it for a month now. Young guy at 29 yrs old. He had some open deck experience with Cypress. Just needed a kick in the pants and pointed in the right direction and he's been doing pretty good. Constantly calls or texts me for every little thing. I cant imagine 7 or 8 guys like this constantly nagging me. Getting better about it. I guess he just needed to feel things out. Hopefully he sticks around. Time will tell.
New truck doing well. Transmission making some noises. Been told thats just how they are. Keep rolling till it blows I guess.

Like many people are telling me, once the feeling gets sour at once place, it's time to move on. I've learned to accept the fact that the gravy runs don't last forever and that if you want to keep making the good money, you're bound to become a gypsy in some way or another.
For some, it's keeping a domicile in one particular area and living out of that hard-to-maneuver, condo-sleeper. For people like myself, it's putting up with the garbage in the current spot until we finally accept the negatives of a particular living/working area(still trying to swallow the reality of gentrified/hipsterized areas like the Denver metro) and just make the dashing leap to the high paying line-haul or PnD position offered to us.
Bounced out of CA five years ago for a better paying, daycab gig in NM. Now it's getting to that point where the same will probably have to be done soon to some other state/metro area with wider opportunities for daycab work.Lepton1 and a-trucker123 Thank this. -
The funny thing is I got off the road in September 2017 and was going to go local. Bad move on my part... I thought 50K cash and being debt free I would coast along driving local. Then I did the math (AGAIN) and local 60/70 hrs minus the commute, wear and tear on my car, paying for an apartment, utilities, dealing with dispatch (everyday) isn’t worth the 1K a month in savings. I would rather save 1K a week. It’s not for everyone but no1 said life is easy. Where else can you save 1K a week??? Everything in life is a sacrifice and nobody will hand you anything. Go out there and get it if you want it. I’m heading back out soon. My local trucking friends can’t believe I haven’t been working and living comfortable for 2 months and soon to be 3 months. I also don’t spend my money foolishly. I only wish I started this sooner in life. From all my P/D driving it makes me a great OTR Driver.

I’m also (most likely) going with Poly Trucking. .52CPM with anywhere from 2500-2900 miles a week. I have all my endorsements, 16 yrs experience and can stay out for 2 months with minimum hometime. IF anyone has a better idea than Poly, let me know please. I just don’t want to be micromanaged. Be safe guys/girls.

Is that auto or manual?
I have a problem when a driver is niggling over 8 or 9 little things. On one hand it's nice but gets old fast and other hand it's handholding and babysitting to me. Ugh.
Does that make sense? He is still relatively young and I think it's a opportunity for him to... evolve in his new found freedoms...Lepton1 Thanks this.
