Frequently, this thing will fail to recognize that a phone is plugged in, and will not launch Apple CarPlay.
A system reboot fixes this, but I have not found a way to do it manually. You just have to turn the ignition off for 20+ minutes. Pressing/holding the power button on the screen just turns the screen off. Holding the mute button on the steering wheel and pressing "system off" just turns the screen off. Turning the main battery kill switch by the driver seat just turns the screen off.
Any tips?

Still having issues with this. Mainly Carplay will fail to launch (phone plugged in but not detected) or audio won't work. System reboot fixes the problem, but cannot reboot manually, have to turn the ignition off and wait.
This happens on all of our trucks so I'm sure others have experienced the problem.
On the off chance that anyone from Freightliner is reading this and you want to reproduce the problem: Simply unplug your phone while the screen says "Starting Apple Carplay" and that will totally brick the system until the next full reboot. Carplay still fails randomly on occasion which is my main problem, this is just a way to force it to fail.KDHCryo Thanks this. -
Doesn't that screen also control the lane departure warning and low air buzzer?
Those are FMCSA item, that Freightliner rolled into the Canbus for the factory radio through the speaker system years ago (moronic move).
If that controls those, and bricks the radio, which doesn't give you a low-air warning buzzer, you may have a lawsuit on your hands.plant Thanks this. -
Now that actually gave me a pretty good laugh today..that's a good one, thxplant Thanks this.

No the infotainment is the screen to the right of the steering wheel that I circled in the picture I posted. It doesn't do anything critical to the functionality of the truck. It's just a settings menu, radio, and Carplay screen. And unfortunately when the radio/Carplay bugs out or doesn't play sound, all the audible truck nannies still work just fine... So then I'm just driving along in silence while being spammed with beeps and buzzes from the lane departure picking up tar lines and the collision alert picking up reflections from highway signs. At that point I just put my earbuds in.
There are some people out there who still take pride in their work and like to read what people are saying about the stuff they work on.KDHCryo Thanks this. -
No buddy, you read my post in the wrong inflection.
I was laughing because you thought Friehtliner might read this. Not at you, nor your problem with a very expensive piece of equipment.
I empathize with that, drive a Freightliner myself.
But thinking Freightliner reads, or even cares, is comical. Hell, they don't care when you bring the truck into the dealership. And if you do, and it's warranty, be prepared to wait for a week while parts are ordered and the tech sips coffee on book time charged to FL. Nobody gives a #### you aren't working for a week, they look at you funny because it's being fixed for free.plant Thanks this. -
For sure. I understood what you said originally. I understand that Freightliner as a whole doesn't care. I just think that there are rank and file staff engineers out there who read forums like this. I would.

Nobody gives a crap once the sale is made unfortunately. Even in the automotive world the screens/infotainment systems are garbage.

You know what I would do. I would find a keyfob remote 12v switching relay and wire it in-line into the 12V power that feeds that unit.
That way you can keyfob it off for 20 minutes then switch it back on, without having to pull over. AND, you still handsfree devices
Something like this..

Why not just a toggle switch?
